Nashville residents are making an effort to paint “Black Lives Matter” on a city street.
This, according to the Nashville-based FOX 17, which reported that social justice advocates and certain Metro Council members are pushing for this idea.
“During a Minority Caucus meeting Tuesday, At-Large Councilwoman Sharon Hurt spoke about proposals and phone calls being submitted to the caucus for a BLM mural. She said two key things were missing from most proposals, approval from the mayor’s office and the actual funding behind it. She spoke about other cities, like D.C. and Baltimore, who’ve had their murals led by or with the high support of the mayor’s office,” the station reported.
“Mayor Cooper’s office tells FOX 17 News it’s in discussion with the Metro Arts Commission, Black Lives Matter and members of the Metro Council to discuss a BLM mural. The conversations are ongoing. Hurt also spoke about the many steps that would have to be taken, like getting Metro Public Works on board, a certain type of paint to use for longevity, not painting over crosswalks and more.”
Nashville activist Tequila Johnson, on her Twitter page Friday, discussed the idea not of a street painting — but a BLM mural in the city.
“Do I want it personally, it doesn’t move me. But the young organizers want it, so I support them,” Johnson tweeted.
“I uplift their strategy and leadership. I would like the Art commission to spend less money on painting butterflies for tourists.”

Hurt, meanwhile, has made other news in recent weeks.
As The Tennessee Star reported last week, Hurt said during a virtual meeting of the Joint Public Safety and Health Committee that the city should have stronger legislation for those not wearing masks. She suggested that Metro officials charge such people with murder or attempted murder.

If someone suggested painting “White lives matter”, “Asian lives matter”, or “Latino lives matter”, it would be universally condemned for what it is, racist. Those that still believe in racial equality need to make their voices heard & call this out, loud & clear. Contact the mayor & city council members of Nashville!
Why don’t they move Black Lives Matter murals to a museum like statues.
If the taxpayer referendum, which effectively would castrate the stupid, corrupt, and arrogant Metro Council and Mayor, gets on the ballot in December, the campaign ads will write themselves. If the organizers have as many signatures as has been indicated, they are assured a major blowout win, too.
Someone needs to put these lunatics in their rightful place.
Maybe they should find a job and contribute to society.
ALL LIVES MATTER. The “black lives matter” statement reeks of prejudice & racism just like “white supremacy or white privilege”. STOP THE SKIN COLOR PROFILING. The color of someone’s skin does not define the person. The character of that individual is what defines them.
All lives matter, just ask the mother of a Hispanic child that has died from senseless violence, ask the Asian mother, ask the black mother, ask the Native American mother, ask the white mother. ALL LIVES MATTER.
If you want to paint a mural or paint a street, OKAY, but make it inclusive of everyone. Why not be a leader and do something to UNITE the community. The last thing we need is another public display of a divisive symbol.
Well said, Chaos. If murals are going to be painted on public streets, then EVERYONE should be allowed to paint them for whatever cause or organization. ALL of the Bill of Rights for EVERYONE, special rights and privileges for NONE.
Better yet, buy your own billboard, buy or provide property to build, paint or erect your own display. The BLM organization has plenty of donated money. They are FREE to provide for their own murals and displays, just like EVERYONE else.
Chaos, well said but this isn’t about skin color….that’s what they want you to believe it’s about, but it’s not. Black lives is simply a vehicle they are using to move their communist agenda forward. Furthermore, blacks lives aren’t painting these streets. it’s white suburban college age young adults.
