The American Conservative Union (ACU) announced their endorsement of Diane Black for governor at a meet and greet Monday before CPAC 365 in Memphis.
U.S. Rep. Black, R-Tennessee, is running for governor in the Republican primary.
“We are proud to endorse Diane Black for Governor of Tennessee,” Black’s campaign said in a press release, quoting the organization’s chairman, Matt Schlapp.
ACU’s press release continued, saying, “As chairman of the House Budget Committee, Diane worked with the president to pass a budget and cut taxes. She knows that a healthy economy is the foundation to the greater success of Tennessee and the country as a whole, and she has a record of spearheading conservative legislation to back it up. If you want a leader who fights for low taxes, is staunchly pro-life, defends the 2nd Amendment and will uphold the rule of law, then vote for Diane in the Republican primary on August 2.”
The ACU’s website says, “We believe that the Constitution of the United States is the best political charter yet created by men for governing themselves. It is our belief that the Constitution is designed to guarantee the free exercise of the inherent rights of the individual through strictly limiting the power of government.”
Black said, “American Conservative Union is a leader in the fight to protect and defend our constitution and the values on which our country was founded. Because of their efforts, our country is a stronger, safer, freer place.”
Black added, “As governor, I will make sure the world knows that Tennessee is open for business and that every Tennessean who wants a job will have the opportunity to live their version of the American Dream.”
Black and Ben Carson, secretary of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, spoke Monday night at CPAC 365. Their panel discussions focused on the growing economy and Tennessee’s economic challenges.
Black has been pulling in endorsements lately, including from State Sen. Mark Green (R-Clarksville), Tennessee Right to Life and the National Rifle Association. Former Knoxville Mayor Victor Ashe recently said Black is the only gubernatorial candidate, in either party, who supports increasing transparency for selecting the state attorney general.
Establishment Republicans and other like swamp creatures will naturally flock to her – that is no surprise. She voted for the Omnibus which she also helped usher into existence as chairman of the budget committee. It expanded the size of the Federal government and President Trump said he didn’t want to sign it, but did anyway…but the spin doctoring here is evident “…she worked with the President to pass a budget…” No, she was the midwife to expanding an already bloated bureaucracy and will do the same to Tennessee.
Tennessee currently enjoys one of the lowest debt loads per capita among all the states – that will go up in a flash with Black as Governor – her record proves it. Vote for her and that’s exactly what you’ll be doing – voting for her. This campaign is just that, all about her, and not what’s best for Tennessee.
OK Terry, Black has her shortcomings AND SO DO THE OTHERS. I just wish that everyone who posts would just give us direction. So and so has this and that shortcoming. . .we know, the trouble is there is no ‘None of the Above” line item on the ballot and someone is going to be our next Governor worthy or not.
Randy! is wretched and the others are mediocre so what is a conservative to do? I say mediocre beats wretched so conservatives must unify to avoid wretched. It’s simple, if a little depressing. To focus on Diane’s bad votes, and she has her share of bad votes to earn a Heritage lifetime score of only 78%, gets us nowhere. Somewhere is avoiding Boyd and eight more years of insipid Haslamism.
Diane will certainly be more reluctant to cross conservatives than Boyd. She’s apparently in second place so lets unify behind her and bring the ANYBODY BUT BOYD strategy to a successful conclusion.
No Stuart, I disagree with your strategy. I vote for someone I believe in, not just to block someone I don’t. I’ve researched the candidates, don’t give a hoot about “endorsements” nor “polls”, and I have laid plenty of criticism at Boyd, backed by documented fact, and will continue to do so at every opportunity. I will do likewise with Black – they’re two peas in a pod….Boyd for his hypocrisy in outsourcing jobs to China – an atheistic communist regime that forces women to have abortions against their will – and Black for her advocacy for bigger government and fascism. I say fascism in the true sense of the word – one who advocates for “Deep State” collusion between public and private interests – that’s exactly what Black represents if you dig a bit into the background of her husband’s company. She acts like it too – building that monstrous temple to excess – while kids in my district don’t have shoes. Bah.
No, Bill Lee may be the “nice guy who finishes last” – but I have to look at myself in the mirror every day. So does Bill.
Thanks, but no thanks. If she wins the primary, I’ll probably still vote Lee as a write-in.
