Americans for Prosperity Tells Music City Officials to ‘Stop the Shenanigans’ on Nashville Taxpayer Protection Act

Americans for Prosperity-Tennessee (AFP-TN) officials this week accused members of the Nashville Election Commission of delaying a vote on the Nashville Taxpayer Protection Act and urged them to verify it.

This, according to a press release that members of AFP-TN published on their website.

AsĀ reported last month, this referendum, if approved, would roll back Nashville Mayor John Cooperā€™s 34-37 percent tax increase. The referendum would also limit property tax rate increases to 2 percent every year without voters approving it.

In the press release, AFP-TN State DirectorĀ ToriĀ VenableĀ said ā€œMetro officials continue to act in secrecy to thwart the will of the people.ā€

ā€œNashville has had a transparency problem for far too long with taxpayer-funded handouts and sweetheart deals to politically connected companies. Now that the cash cow has been put out to pasture, our city is feeling the pressure of reckless spending and corporate welfare that put us in our current position. Responsibly using tax dollars requires cutting budgets, not raising taxes,ā€ Venable said.

ā€œPeople feel they have been lied to by Mayor Cooper who previouslyĀ saidĀ lawmakers shouldnā€™t ask taxpayers for more money when they arenā€™t properly managing the money they already have.Ā Nashvillians have been hit with a massive tax hike while government officials refused to cut their own pay raises or tighten the cityā€™s belt, as Nashville families have been forced to do. The only path out of this dilemma is complete transparency and giving Nashville voters the chance to be heard at the ballot box in December.ā€

Venable also said that before Cooper starts ā€œthreatening to strip essential services like police, fire, and educationā€ he should ā€œtake a hard look at all of their pet projects to assess if now is the time to take on billions of more debt.ā€

ā€œNashville needs to get its priorities in order ā€” the mayorā€™s threats to defund public services first just might spur more Nashvillians to call his bluff,ā€ Venable said.

As The Tennessee Star reported last week, members of the Metro Nashville Election Commission met privately last Friday. At least one of the five commission members refused to say what they discussed, even though it was government business.

Nashville attorney Jim Roberts toldĀ The Tennessee StarĀ Saturday that he suspects commission members met to discuss ways to undermine the Nashville Taxpayer Protection Act.

RECALL COOPER. Why are you wasting your time on anything other than taking him out?? If you think he cares about your rallies or your signs think again. He laughs at you. Get SERIOUS. RECALL this lying dictator. We can recall a city Mayor in TN so git er done folks.

Not sure if I completely agreeā€”Mayor Barry’s 10 billion dollar folly went down in flames because taxpayers did not want it. I think Min Cooper’s tax increase will suffer the same fate if the Mayor and his criminal friends on council do not block it from the Dec. 5 ballot.

One thing: do not pay your property taxes until the last minute. Force Metro to run out of money either way.

Here is the WEB X link to tomorrow’s Election Commission meetingā€”monitor it if you can so the narrative will not change afterward.

Elections have consequences and Davidson County loves to vote D. Expect more efforts for higher taxes and higher spending. The TN legislature could address some of this with laws I would think – this is bound to get worse as the larger cities go more blue.

Herr Cooper and Comrade Mendes admitted publicly that the other amendment to be placed on the December 5th ballot is only intended to confuse “stupid” Nashville voters.

The Mayor and Council (for the most part) are enemies of Nashville taxpayers and workers. True progressive fascists who think we are stupid deplorables who must blindly obey their leftists agenda.
