Tennessee Gov. Bill Lee along with 23 other Republican governors signed a letter Thursday that “strongly supports” the Senate confirmation of Supreme Court justice nominee Amy Coney Barrett.
In the letter, the governors said they agreed with Barrett’s judicial doctrine.
“As elected leaders of our states, we support a judicial philosophy like Judge Barrett’s that respects the roles of coequal branches of government and protects powers reserved to the states. Most importantly, Americans can trust Judge Barrett, because she will apply the text of the Constitution and statutes as written,” the letter says.
Also, the governors quoted Barrett on how a judge should act.
“As Judge Barrett stated during the President’s announcement of her nomination, “A judge must apply the law as written. Judges are not policymakers, and they must be resolute in setting aside any policy views they might hold,” the letter says.
“Americans can trust Judge Barrett, because she will apply the text of the Constitution and statutes as written,” the letter adds.
To end the letter, these state leaders said Barret reminded them of so many Americans who are devoted to their family, faith, community and country.
“Judge Barrett has demonstrated from the bench nothing but legal brilliance, independence, thoughtfulness, and impartiality,” the letter concludes. “She will be an exceptional addition to our nation’s highest court.”
The governors sent their letter to U.S. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, Minority Leader Charles Schumer, Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Lindsey Graham and Ranking Member Dianne Feinstein.
On Friday, Lee showed his support for Barret on Twitter.
“Proud to join my colleagues in calling for a swift confirmation of the eminently qualified Amy Coney Barrett to the Supreme Court,” Lee tweeted.

Although I support this nomination, Bill Lee is nothing more than an attention seeking yes man, riding the President’s coattails.
