Blackburn Blasts Trans Sports on 50th Anniversary of Title IX

A U.S. senator from Tennessee blasted transgender sports allowing biological men to compete against biological females Thursday, on what was the 50th anniversary of Title IX.

“Joe Biden is intent on erasing women and their historical accomplishments. No matter what the left says, men and women are created physically different – that’s a fact,” Senator Marsha Blackburn (R-TN) told The Tennessee Star. “What Joe Biden is seeking to implement in female sports will result in two teams – one team of men and another team of folks that used to be men. It is extremely unfair to female athletes like Riley Gaines, that have dedicated their entire life to a sport only to be defeated by an athlete that was a man just three years ago.”

Title IX of the Civil Rights Act prohibits discrimination against women in schools or by other government-funded entities.

Title IX says the following:

No person in the United States shall, on the basis of sex, be excluded from participation, in be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any education program or activity receiving Federal financial assistance

President Joe Biden wants to expand Title IX to protect biological men who want to play in women’s sports.

Gaines, to whom Blackburn referred, is a female swimmer at the University of Kentucky, and is notable for speaking out against Lia Thomas, a biological male who competed in the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) women’s swimming championship.

Thomas won one event at the NCAA championships, and tied with Gaines for fifth place in another.

Blackburn also held a press conference with other lawmakers Thursday, in which she spoke out against transgender participation in female sports.

“Whether it is young girls who are on the tennis court, or maybe they’re out playing golf, or they’re running splits getting ready to compete in a fall cross country season because they want to compete on a college team…” Blackburn said. “Now Title IX for 50 years has said it’s a level playing field – that you’ve got women’s sports and you’ve got men’s sports. And the Biden administration has decided that they’re going to erase women’s sports. Indeed, they want to erase the word ‘woman.'”

“If they get their way in changing Title IX, you’re going to end up with a team of men, and a team of former men,” she said.
