Results of a poll targeting California voters have found an overwhelming majority say parental rights continue when children attend government schools.
The survey, conducted by Rasmussen Reports and Real Impact, an organization that seeks to “equip the Church to stand for righteousness in the public square,” observed 82 percent of respondents disagreed with a statement that says, “A person loses their parental rights when a child enters public school.”

Asked if they would support a local law requiring parents to be notified of any major change in a child’s physical, mental, or emotional health or academic performance, 84 percent of California voters said they would, including 66 percent who would strongly support it, while 12 percent would oppose such a law.
If the same law included notifying parents about an issue concerning a child’s gender identity that is not compatible with his or her biological sex, 62 percent of California voters would be more likely to support such a parental notification law, while 27 percent would be less inclined to support it.
Additionally, the survey found 91 percent of California voters believe parents, not the government, have the larger responsibility in raising a child, and 68 percent oppose decisions by teachers and school officials to keep information about a child’s gender identity a secret from parents.
In April, Joe Biden created a firestorm when he made this statement during a White House event: “There’s no such thing as someone else’s child. Our nation’s children are all our children!”
Asked if they agree or disagree with Biden’s statement, 64 percent of California voters said they disagree with him, including 48 percent who strongly disagree, while 29 percent agree with him.
“The data clearly shows that California parents support transparency and accountable policies, making it mandatory for the school administrations to inform parents if their child is facing any of these challenges or lifestyle changes,” Gina Gleason, executive director of Real Impact, said in a statement. “Parents are attending school board meetings in droves to show that despite what the education establishment thinks, children, their well-being, and upbringing are not the responsibility of the school or state, it’s the responsibility of the parents.”
In comments about the survey, Capitol Resource Institute (CRI) said the results show that teachers and school officials choosing to keep information about children’s gender identity from parents “have exposed the reality of deception in public schools across California.”
“Parents are beginning to realize that public schools will assume the role as parent, especially in districts where parents have been trusting or uninvolved,” the traditional family values organization noted.
CRI President Karen England made clear that “public schools are certainly not meant to be a secret society for our youth to confide in, and Californians agree.”
“There is no reason teachers and administrators should hold higher authority over children’s well-being or mental health,” England added. “In fact, Californians do not believe educators should hold ANY authority over their children.”
The survey of 1,305 likely California voters, which has a margin of sampling error of +/-3 percentage points and a 95 percent level of confidence, was conducted May 18.

I really miss the days when the teachers in the California school system actually taught. They taught core courses, age appropriate and seemed so invested in student success. They wanted, they pleaded for parental involvement. Today, they seem more focused on social issues, woke ideology, CRT and of course their bargaining unit membership. Student academic performance is sliding, the majority of the students in California public schools do not pass standardized testing. Teachers seemingly want to exclude parents, they do not want input, they also do not want to be held accountable. Charter schools and school choice should be promoted.
