Cheryl Fritze: Polling on ‘Shy Trump Voters’ Indicate Former President Likely to Have Big Lead Michigan

Cheryl Fritze, director of News Operations for Michigan News Source, discussed recent polls conducted in the battleground state of Michigan. The results show former President Donald Trump with a slight lead over Vice President Kamala Harris.

In a recent poll by Michigan News Source and Mitchell Research and Communications, Inc., Trump leads Harris by 1 percentage point (48 percent-47 percent) in a head-to-head matchup with a 4 percent margin of error.

To identify the “shy Trump voters” in Michigan who typically refrain from answering survey questions about their political alignments, the poll asked respondents which candidates they think their friends and neighbors support, which saw Trump with a 10-point lead over Harris (45 percent-35 percent).

Fritze said the results of the question targeting “shy Trump voters” were “fascinating.”

“We all know that polls of course are a snapshot in time and it depends on the way you ask the questions, but I thought that was really very interesting,” Fritze said on Thursday’s edition of The Michael Patrick Leahy Show.

Amid his slight lead in the polls, Fritze discussed Trump’s ongoing effort to appeal to more votes in Michigan, specifically Muslim voters, as the former president’s campaign recently set up a campaign office in Hamtramck – a suburb of Detroit with one of the biggest Muslim communities in Wayne County as approximately 60 percent of its population is Muslim.

The opening of a Trump campaign office in Hamtramck comes weeks after the city’s Democratic mayor, Ameer Ghalib, endorsed the former president in the presidential race, calling him a “man of principles” and “the right choice for this critical time.”

Fritze said the endorsement of Trump by the Democratic Muslim mayor signals that the larger Muslim community believes Harris is “weak” and would not deliver peace in the Middle East.

“The sentiment behind some of this is that a lot of the Muslim Americans believe Harris is weak. They said our only opportunity for peace is with President Trump,” Fritze explained.

“They see Harris is trying to ride both sides of the fence,” Fritze added.
