Former judge-turned-Sixth Congressional District Republican candidate Bob Corlew has launched his first television advertisement. The 30-second spot is divided in roughly in half with the first part telling viewers who Corlew is.
The advertisement begins with a misty shot of Bob Corlew walking hand-in-hand with his wife, Dianne. The voiceover is by a woman who says, “Bob Corlew, a Christian conservative who believes Tennessee’s values are worth fighting for.”
The video cuts to images of Corlew and his family throughout his life, and in his own voice he states, “I’m an Army veteran, former judge, father, and grandfather.”
Switching to Corlew himself, viewers see his say, “I’ve dedicated my life in service to others.”
Pivoting to his policy agenda, Corlew says, “I’ll stand with President Trump to finish The Wall; no amnesty; restore the rule of law; end chain migration; defund all sanctuary cities; and put more officers and resources on the border.”
In the final seconds, he delivers his closing, incorporating the required campaign finance disclosure, “I’m Bob Corlew, the conservative Republican and I approve this message.”
Watch the new ad:
Voters first learned of Bob Corlew in 1984, when he was elected General Sessions Judge at the age of thirty-one. According to his campaign website biography, he was one of the youngest judges in Tennessee at the time. After six years of service, Corlew was elected Chancery Court Judge overseeing civil cases in Cannon and Rutherford Counties, where he served for 24 years, retiring from the court in 2014.
In an open letter to the electorate posted on his website, Corlew explains the reasons for his run for Congress:
I have dedicated my life to public service, not political service, serving my community and my country. Â I am a veteran, a teacher, a servant leader, but most importantly, I am a grandpa of eight wonderful grandchildren.
It used to be that if you played by the rules and worked hard, you would be able to get your slice of the American Dream. Â But sadly, politicians in both parties have weakened America by making our country less safe, less secure, and less American.
To ensure a safer, stronger, and more prosperous America, we must remain committed to our founding principles – respect for individual liberties, for free enterprise, for human life, for the rule of law, and respect for our fellow man.
Those founding principles are found in the Constitution, the Constitution I swore to uphold as a member of the US Army, and the Constitution I protected as a judge right here in Middle Tennessee.
Under President Trump things are turning around, but President Trump needs folks who will work with him, not against him.
I hope you will join me on this awesome challenge. It won’t be easy, but the future is worth fighting for.
Bob Corlew joins State Rep. Judd Matheny (R-Tullahoma) and former Tennessee Agriculture Commissioner John Rose in the run for the GOP nomination in the Sixth Congressional Districtto replace Representative Diane Black (R-TN-06), who, in turn, is running for Governor.
Editor’s note: Both Bob Corlew for Congress and John Rose for Congress are advertisers in The Tennessee Star
Michael Patrick Leahy was the host of the Michael DelGiorno show today and he conducted an analysis of the Sixth District race. As a result of the program I conclude that unless conservatives step up and furnish significant financial support to Judd Matheny he isn’t competitive financially with his opponents. Bob Corlew, with no record in elective office, was on the show to assure us he is a great guy and a conservative to boot, but in answer to Michael’s question, with a long “on the one hand, on the other hand” introduction, indeed he would have voted YES in favor of the Budget Act passed today. That’s the Budget Act that the Heritage Foundation called “. . .fiscally irresponsible and creates serious long-term budget challenges.” As if all this isn’t depressing enough please remember the third candidate, John Rose, has never held elective office either, and his support and his record of public service show him to be from the Haslam establishment wing of the Republican Party.
If you’re a conservative, I’m afraid things don’t look good in the Sixth.
On a day when we see the Republican leadership in the House desperately seeking Democratic votes so they can pass the budget busting irresponsible but well named Bipartisan Budget Act of 2018 we see how important it is for conservatives to send proven conservatives to Congress. Besides not quite living in the Sixth District he seeks to represent, Corlew joins Rose in being incapable of pointing to a single thing that establish his conservative bona fides. As a contrast, they are both running against Judd Matheny who has been a conservative leader in the state house for many years. Hopefully conservatives in the Sixth District will decide this is no time for speculation and simply elect Judd to be their congressman.
