Federal officials have sentenced a Florida man — also a convicted felon — to federal prison following a high-speed chase along Interstate 75 after he robbed a traveler at gunpoint.
U.S. District Judge Louis Sands sentenced that man, James Clemente Holloway, 43, of Jacksonville, Florida, to serve 80 months in federal prison, followed by three years of supervised release. This, after Sands previously pleaded guilty to one count of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
This, according to a press release that the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Georgia published this week.
“According to court documents, Holloway robbed a traveler at gunpoint at the southbound rest area at exit 79 on I-75 in Turner County, Georgia, on March 12, 2019. A BOLO was issued, and Valdosta Sheriff’s deputies pursued Holloway at speeds of 110 mph. Holloway changed lanes multiple times and deputies successfully deployed stop sticks, which caused Holloway’s tires to blow,” according to the press release.
“Holloway was arrested without injury and found in possession of a Taurus .25 caliber semi-automatic pistol and the stolen cash. Holloway has a lengthy criminal history, including convictions for felony grand theft auto, possession with intent to distribute cocaine, felony burglary, felony breaking and entering and felony probation violation.”
The federal system has no parole.
Earlier this month, federal officials in Atlanta sentenced a man to prison for unlawfully acquiring dozens of firearms, several of which Atlanta Police officers later recovered at various crime scenes.
That man, Ben’Andre Javon Goolsby “helped fuel the violence in our community,” said Acting U.S. Attorney Kurt R. Erskine, representing the Northern District of Georgia.
ATF Special Agent in Charge Arthur Peralta said Goolsby put guns in the hands of criminals “who cannot legally own them.”
U.S. District Judge Michael L. Brown sentenced Goolsby, 25, of Atlanta, to three years and four months in prison, followed by three years of supervised release.
