Live from Music Row Friday morning on The Tennessee Star Report with Michael Patrick Leahy – broadcast on Nashville’s Talk Radio 98.3 and 1510 WLAC weekdays from 5:00 a.m. to 8:00 a.m. – host Leahy welcomed Jihad Watch’s Robert Spencer to the newsmaker line to discuss the weak policies of Joe Biden’s administration and who is really running it behind the scenes.
Leahy: We are joined now by Robert Spencer on our newsmaker line. Robert is the founder of Jihad Watch. He’s the author of 23 books, including The New York Times bestseller The Politically Incorrect Guide to Islam and The Truth About Mohammed. Robert Spencer, welcome to The Tennessee Star Report.
Spencer: Hey, thanks for having me on.
Leahy: Robert, has there been a worse day in American history than what happened yesterday with the terrorist attacks outside the airport in Kabul, Afghanistan, that led to the death of 13 American service members?
Spencer: I’ll tell you something. This is the direct result of the Biden administration’s policies that have weakened the military by making it a political instrument that is more dedicated to enforcing and implementing a leftist agenda than it is to fighting wars.
This could have been avoided with a minimum of preparation. It’s a very simple thing. I tell you something. I’m not a military man myself, but I can imagine that you could figure out a plan wherein you could establish a perimeter, get all the people inside it that you need to get out, get them out, and then get the people out who’ve been guarding them.
This is not hard. And yet none of it was done because if you look at the record of the statements of military top brass all through the summer, instead of preparing for the withdrawal from Afghanistan, instead of taking care of their other responsibilities, they’re writing about critical race theory about ferreting out so-called extremists in the military.
Which means supporters of the former president. And making the military essentially into another instrument of social engineering.
Leahy: My question for you, Robert Spencer, founder of Jihad Watch on the web at jihadwatch.org and prolific author. Robert, is Joe Biden simply stupid and incompetent, or is he stupid, incompetent, and intentional?
Spencer: That’s the key question here that I think everybody is asking right now. And in the first place, I can answer it by saying, I don’t think Joe Biden is anything. Joe Biden is just a puppet. He’s an empty shell.
He’s barely even coherent at this point. But the people behind him, did they do this on purpose? I think there’s a real possibility that they may have. And this is not some crazy conspiracy theory.
Because we are talking about people who are socialist internationalists and who clearly do not like the idea of America or of nation-states in general. Either we think that they’re idiots or we think that.
Because if you leave, as many people have noted, if you leave a country, defenseless and borderless, you don’t have a country anymore.
And yet they seem to be intent on doing this. And it does seem as if they are pursuing a strategy that is designed to make essentially all the world just like the rest of the world, by mass population migrations, so that every place is pretty much like every other place.
I think this is ultimately the service of an absolutely insane utopian idea that if every place is just like every other place there will be no wars because there won’t be any reason to go to war.
Leahy: Let me just follow up on that a little bit, because I look at these decisions and it’s the only conclusion you can come to. And that is that these decisions were intended to have, for me, to have this outcome. That’s my view right now. I’m just looking at it from a logical perspective.
Spencer: I agree with you. I think you’re absolutely right. You’re absolutely right. Because, as I say, these people aren’t idiots. I remember way back now it’s so long ago, but I think it still applies.
In 2008, when Barack Obama was running for president, he was seen several times avidly reading a book, The Post American World, by CNN’s Fareed Zakaria. And Zakaria argues in that book that America needs to be weakened.
America needs to be weakened politically, militarily, and economically in order to bring it back down closer to the rest of the world, and then there won’t be one superpower that everybody’s clamoring at and there will be world peace. And this is, I think, the strategy that the left has pursued ever since.
Leahy: Who are the people behind the scenes, you think that are pulling the strings of the puppet Joe Biden?
Spencer: Certainly Obama. Obama even spoke about it openly not long ago, actually, that it would be nice to have a third term. And it would be nice if he could be sitting in his basement and call up the President and tell him to say this, say that and the President would do it. (Chuckles)
And I think, well, somebody’s talking into the man’s earpiece. And so I do believe that Obama is involved and the whole Obama team. Valerie Jarrett, Eric Holder, and all the people that were such terrible influences over the country from 09-17. They’re back in charge.
Leahy: And Susan Rice has a prominent role within the White House now. Right?
Spencer: Yeah. Absolutely. And so Susan Rice is a primary example of the kind of thing I’m talking about a functionary who fronted for Obama and who was one of the leading exponents of the lie that the Benghazi massacre was caused by a video of Muhammad that led Muslims to be enraged into a riot when really it was all about the State Department’s total mismanagement and indifference to repeated reports about Al Qaeda activity in Libya and the danger to the consulate in Benghazi.
And so you have Susan Rice there. You’re going to get the same kind of foreign policy mismanagement and deception. And this is what we’re seeing.
Leahy: I’m going to say something that perhaps my listeners are going to say, really? But it just strikes me that Joe Biden is a far worse commander chief and president than Hillary Clinton would have been. What are your thoughts on that?
Spencer: I think that because Joe Biden is not even a minimally competent human being at this point that he can barely fashion the coherent sentence that he is clearly not in charge.
This is a very dangerous situation because the people who are in charge, you know, we’re not even sure who they are. We’re speculating here about Obama and Susan Rice and so on. And it may be other people altogether.
And so they’re completely unaccountable because they’re invisible, whereas Hillary Clinton would have been out there being proactive, and it would have been bad. But at least we would have known the chain of command and known who was responsible.
Leahy: Yes. It’s a very, very good point. And of course, she was the Secretary of State during the Benghazi debacle in 2012.
Spencer: Yes.
Leahy: And her actions then were no better than Biden’s are right now. At least perhaps not the scale, but pretty bad compared to where we are right now.
Spencer: No doubt about it. Absolutely.
Leahy: Robert Spencer, where does this go?
Spencer: It’s going to get worse. I don’t think there’s any doubt that it’s going to get worse because the administration seems determined not to learn any lessons and not to take any steps that would protect our people over there.
As a matter of fact, you know what their intent is on doing? It’s bringing Afghan refugees over here. Now, there are some worthy people who risk their lives to help us, who deserve to be given every consideration.
But the problem is that the Biden administration is picking up people in Kabul without any kind of adequate vetting and bringing them over here.
And this is at the same time, not only is the Taliban and ISIS running around, but the Taliban just released all these ISIS and Al Qaeda jihadis from jails in Kabul.
And so what’s to prevent those guys from boarding some of these planes and coming over here? And so now they’re in Pennsylvania or Maine or somewhere, and there’s still jihadis. We’re going to be hearing from them.
Leahy: Right now, it’s entirely possible that some of these ISIS fighters who were just recently released from prison that have now been put on these planes and come to the United States as refugees. It’s entirely possible, I would say.
Spencer: Yes. Absolutely. There’s really nothing that would have prevented it because the administration, remember, is also committed to the idea that Islam is a religion of peace and it has nothing whatsoever to do with terrorism.
So one of the aspects of that willful ignorance and denial is that they wouldn’t even know how to vet even if they wanted to vet these refugees.
They wouldn’t know what to look for is danger signs that they might become gates because they are determined to deny that there’s any kind of Islamic terrorism at all.
Leahy: Can you stay through the break because I have a number of other questions I want to ask you? Particularly also about the role that Barack Obama is playing or may have played. And actually, if this is simply a continuation of the process he began.
Spencer: Sure.
