Live from Music Row Friday morning on The Tennessee Star Report with Michael Patrick Leahy – broadcast on Nashville’s Talk Radio 98.3 and 1510 WLAC weekdays from 5:00 a.m. to 8:00 a.m. –  host Leahy welcomed the original all-star panelist Crom Carmichael to the studio to discuss how Democrats when in power move the needle to the left while Republicans remain stagnant.
(Chuck Schumer clip plays)
Leahy: That’s Chuck Schumer asking for more money for teachers’ unions and not gonna do anything for those poor kids.
Carmichael: The brazen lies that Chuck Schumer and his fellow Democrats do now and you know you hate saying it. But here’s what Biden, Democrats, and Schumer are doing. The bill that has been introduced is one point nine trillion. One point nine trillion. Nine percent of that bill is for COVID relief. Nine percent. Let’s round it to 10. So the other one point seven trillion is for special interests.
Leahy: It’s pork.
Carmichael: It’s just pure pork. And by the way, money has already been allocated to schools to reopen but they keep moving the goalposts on what they need. All this is the Democrats to fund the Obamacare that is falling apart. And Obamacare is falling apart because once the mandate was gone and you couldn’t force people to sign up for it younger healthier people started finding other forms of insurance. I can’t remember the names of them but they only cost like two or three hundred dollars a month for the insurance if you’re young.
Leahy: If you are young.
Carmichael: And if you’re young and healthy.
Leahy: So it makes sense.
Carmichael: Well, of course, Obamacare is getting a huge amount of money and they want to increase the subsidies all the way up to people making $100,000.
Leahy: I saw that. That’s crazy.
Carmichael: Well, but it’s not crazy if you’re trying to nationalize the healthcare system. Then they want to give a whole bunch of money to poorly run blue States. There are about 10 of them that they want to give money to.
Leahy:Â Tennessee by the way is on the exact opposite end. It’s probably the best-run state in the country.
Carmichael: All the red states are on the other end of that spectrum. And so the question is going to be, do the Democrats from Georgia, Arizona, even Nevada, Montana, and West Virginia, do they vote in favor of giving massive amounts of money to other states at the taxpayers’ expense?
Leahy: Transfer money from red states to blue states.
Carmichael: Then as you said, the teachers’ unions and higher education are getting billions of dollars. Billions of dollars in higher education. And here’s what’s interesting to me about all this. If the Republicans, and I do believe the Republicans will because here’s what I think’s going on in the country. The markets have begun to crack. The stock market has begun to crack.
Leahy: It’s starting to go down a little bit.
Carmichael: The foundation is cracking. I don’t believe that the market is in keeping with the policies that are passing except for one thing. I’ve had investment bankers explain to me and I do agree with this generally. When the fed is pumping money into the economy all that money has to go someplace. So if it goes into bonds, and bonds are in great demand and treasuries are in great demand that forces down interest rates. When interest rates are forced down then money flows away from those assets over to the stock market where there’s still liquidity.
There still is a point at which that the market will say we can’t keep doing this silly stuff. And once the market decides that this silly stuff can’t continue without forcing inflation and higher interest rates then the market will begin to crack. Fundamentally what’s going on in our economy is the Democrats are changing all kinds of things. They’re really changing the energy sector. They’re trying to change the health care sector. There are many sectors in the economy. The small business is still being crushed.
Leahy: They are crushing it.
Carmichael: In the blue states. So if the stock market falters and the economy falters, then the midterm elections will not go well for the people who caused that to happen. And that would be the Democrats. If Republicans take back some control, Trump I think is coming out of CPAC this Sunday.
Leahy: I think it is Saturday.
Carmichael: And CPAC by the way has moved to Orlando because it’s so hostile.
Leahy: Hostile is an understatement.
Carmichael: So Trump is going to come out and it’ll be interesting to see how Trump involves himself. The people in New York state and the government officials up there like Attorney General Cyrus Vance are still trying to figure out a way…
Leahy: The district attorney of Manhattan, Cyrus Vance, Jr.
Carmichael: Is he a federal employee?
Leahy: No. He’s the elected district attorney of Manhattan. He’s like the guy on Law and Order. The top guy. The guy Fred Thomspon played. That’s who he is. But he’s no Fred Thomspon. He’s a left-wing Soros-type lunatic.
Carmichael: He is trying to find a way to convict Trump of a felony so he can’t run again.
Leahy: Exactly.
Carmichael: That’s all that’s going on there. I think it’ll be very difficult for him to do it. He may have to rig the jury to do it.
Leahy: Of course they are going to rig the jury. Can someone who’s convicted of a felony not run for president?
Carmichael: I don’t think they can.
Leahy: I don’t think I’ve ever seen anything on that. We’ll check on that.
Carmichael: But that’s what is going on and they’re trying to pull a Michael Cohen on him. And by the way, there’s another bill coming in right behind it. A lot of the money in this bill is going to be is scheduled to be spent in 23 and 24. 2023 and 2024. So, please don’t try to argue that it’s about COVID relief. It’ll be interesting to see if it works. But I get back to the fundamental question. Democrats when they get the power they do move the ball to the left. When Republicans get power it seems to me the best they can do is keep the ball from moving to the left.
Leahy: Or slow down the move to the left.
Carmichael: I’m saying the best they can do.
Leahy: I’m with you on that. Trump actually moved the ball a little bit to the right.
Carmichael: But as soon as the Democrats retook power, they eliminated all those things.
Leahy: I agree.
Carmichael: But I think that there are some interesting questions about what the Republicans will need to do in order to be effective in moving the ball to the right.
Leahy: I have either three or four-word phrase. Grow a backbone. (Carmichael laughs)
Carmichael: Grow a backbone. (Chuckles)
