On Tuesday’s Tennessee Star Report with Michael Patrick Leahy – broadcast on Nashville’s Talk Radio 98.3 and 1510 WLAC weekdays from 5:00 am to 8:00 am – Leahy and guest co-host Crom Carmichael discussed the relationship between the government union leaders and the Democrat party and disclosed that the party receives over a billion dollars per election cycle.
During the course of the show, Carmichael expressed the growing control that the government is seeking over ‘we the people’ and the true motives of the Democrat party. Coining the phrase, ‘Tree of Evil’ he went on to stress that he was very concerned about the push for government unions and described their leaders as thugs.
Leahy: We’re in the studio with our good friend Crom Carmichael. Crom, I had a story I wrote at Breitbart the other day. I’ll just read the first two sentences and that will lead us to our next topic:
Democratic Representative Alcee Hastings, Democrat from Florida is one of only eight federal judges in American history who have been impeached by the House of Representatives.
Convicted by the US Senate and removed from office. No federal judge has ever been impeached over an alleged incident for which there is no complaint, that a single purported witness without any supporting contemporaneous evidence claims took place 34 years prior to the judge’s confirmation by the US Senate. (Chuckles)
Carmichael: Well here’s what’s interesting: there are two or three things at play here. It gives you a window into mind and hearts of the Democrat party. And something we can discuss it maybe briefly now and then we ought to dig into it deeply. What does the Democrat party and who does the Democrat actually represent? Who does the Democrat party see as their major constituents? And let me say who I think that is.
Leahy: OK.
Carmichael: The Democrat party is now the party of government. It sees the government. It sees the government unions and the bosses who run the government unions as the people that they answer too and the trial lawyers.
Leahy: And illegal aliens apparently. (Laughs)
Carmichael: No illegal aliens are not, just like black people and Hispanics the Democrats only look at black people and Hispanics as voters. They don’t look at them as what can I do to make your lives better. They really don’t do that. And you see that.
And we’ll see whether or not the Mayor-Elect does in Nashville, does anything to the government-run schools here. I’m not talking about the charter schools.
Leahy: No, the public schools.
Carmichael: And I’m not talking about the magnet schools. But the government-run schools for the everyday student in Nashville, we’ll see if the Mayor-Elect uses his mandate to try to move the needle on that.
But the Democrat party wants to expand government. The reason it wants to have single-payer healthcare is they want to make every nurse and every doctor a member of a government union so that they can get more dues. And that’s a really sad state.
Now, where did this start? And it’s important to recognize that bad things take a long time from the time the seed is planted until the tree of evil grows. (Leahy laughs) OK? It takes a long time.
Leahy: Let’s take that. The tree of evil.
Carmichael: The tree of evil.
Leahy: Is that a unique phrase to Crom Carmichael?
Carmichael: I just made it up.
Leahy: The tree of evil.
Carmichael: I was trying to come up with a metaphor.
Leahy: I like that. The tree of evil.
Carmichael: They planted the seed in 1961. Jack Kennedy signed an executive order saying that government employees could unionize. It has taken since then. And by the way, 98% of all the money the government unions give to political parties, 98% goes to the Democrats. And it’s over a billion dollars an election cycle.
Over a billion dollars. So you had that group that they really want to feather their nest because the more government employees there are, the more money the Democrat party gets. And it’s a really incestuous terrible situation. And I don’t exactly know what the solution is. But if you don’t identify the problem you’re never going to solve it.
And then the other one is the trial lawyers. And the trial lawyers love to be able to get judges so they can sue and make all these judgments against companies and all these other things. Some of them are legitimate, a lot of them are not legitimate. And then if you look at where the money goes from the trial lawyers, it goes to the Democrat party. And it is a lot of money.
And then the last group would be the entertainment industry. And the one thing that the entertainment industry cares about is money. And so it’s a really interesting thing to kind of look at. Now we circle back to Kavanaugh. And what Kavanaugh represents is that fifth person on the Supreme Court who believes more like Neil Gorsuch. And there’s a book that I now own but have not read yet. Leahy: A Republic if You Can Keep It.
Carmichael: A Republic if You Can Keep It. And I have it and I’m going to read it. We the people will determine whether or not we remain a Democracy or free people.
Leahy: Or a constitutional republic.
Carmichael: Yes. A constitutional republic of free people. Or whether or not we give up our freedoms to the government and then lose our freedoms as a result. Because there’s not really much in between. Beto O’Rourke really unmasked the Democrat party. The Democrat party wants to take every firearm from peace-loving Americans.
And here’s what’s interesting. An amendment was offered by representative Buck to the House bill on assault weapons saying that this was on the Red Flag. It said every gang member, every known gang member will have a Red Flag and the Democrats voted that down. They voted that down.
Leahy: They want gang members to be able to have guns but nobody else?
Carmichael: Yes. They want gang members to be able to have guns. Known gang members. So you’re really getting a sense of what’s going on in the country. And it’s worrisome. Let’s put it that way.
Leahy: Yeah, I think worrisome is good. I like the phrasing, the tree of evil began in 1961.
Carmichael: And on that issue. There are other issues where the tree of evil was planted at a particular time and then it took a long time to grow.
Leahy: We’re going to have to have a series of segments called, ‘Crom Carmichael’s Tree of Evil.’ (Laughs)
Carmichael: I am not castigating government employees but I am castigating government employee union leaders. They’re thugs.
Leahy: And to add to that, you mentioned the poor performance of the public schools in the city of Nashville. And I’ll say this, it has come to the floor that a lot of people will criticize teachers for that. The teachers are in an awful system and they’re not paid very much.
Carmichael: No.
Leahy: It’s the system that’s the problem, not the teachers. We have a lot of teachers call in and tell us the reality of what’s going on. The problem Mayor-Elect Cooper has is this. He’s got nine nincompoops who are basically on the board of Metro Schools and they get one block grant budget that they propose. And once that budget’s approved by the Mayor and City Council they can do whatever they want with it.
Carmichael: That’s right.
Leahy: So there’s no control there at the level you would need. But still, we’ll see if the Mayor-Elect will do anything on that.
Carmichael: Now at the national level, the person who visited the White House with Obama more than any other person was the head of the SEIU. Two times a week.
Leahy: I’m shocked.
Carmichael: Two times a week.
