Wednesday morning on The Tennessee Star Report with Michael Patrick Leahy – broadcast live from Music Row on Nashville’s Talk Radio 98.3 and 1510 WLAC weekdays from 5:00 a.m. to 8:00 a.m. – Leahy was joined in studio by the original all-star panelist Crom Carmichael.
At the end of the third hour, Carmichael discussed how Steve Bannon has become a threat to the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) by rallying the world to unite against them. He added that he found it interesting that the author of War for Eternity Ben Teitelbaum who is also a music professor at the University of Colorado has managed to pick up on something that Steve Bannon is messaging and the CCP finds threatening.
Leahy: I’m curious, your role here was to be the analyst of that interview I just conducted with Ben Teitelbaum from the University of Colorado who wrote a book called War for Eternity about Steve Bannon. What was your take about that interview?
Carmichael: It was short obviously. I couldn’t really tell where he would describe himself.
Leahy: Probably a little bit leaning left.
Carmichael: I would like to of heard him describe himself. I would say this, he strikes me as someone that is quite curious. He strikes me as a person even if he leans left he’s open-minded which is unusual.
Leahy: You’ve made that point before. Which I agree with by the way. A lot of people on the left are not open-minded.
Carmichael: No, they’re not. They’re not. This guy is a person who strikes me as someone who would consider the possibility that problems are complex as opposed to simple. If you are a simple-minded person meaning that you think every problem is A causes B and solve for A and you fix B. Which is what most people on the left are. Then this guy is curious.
Now there was one part to be honest with you Michael where I was phasing out just a little bit and was not listening as well as I should have. He was talking about some group or something was attacking Bannon and used a bunch of language about how he’s this and he’s that. All these terrible terrible things. Was he talking about The New York Times or CNN? (Leahy laughs) I missed that part. Who was he talking about?
Leahy: The Chinese Communist Party.
Carmichael: Oh! (Leahy laughs) I’m so sorry. I’m so sorry.
Leahy: I fell for that one. You got me! (Laughter) Ahhh, you got me.
Carmichael: I was just having a little fun.
Leahy: That was good. That was very good. (Laughter)
Carmichael: But isn’t it interesting how the language and the attacks by the Communist Chinese Party sound a lot like The New York Times and CNN’s repertoire of the Trump administration?
Leahy: It’s almost as if they have the same talking points. (Carmichael chuckles) It’s almost as if!
Carmichael: Maybe they go to the same place to get their words of the day.
Leahy: How extraordinary is it Crom that the leadership of the Chinese Communist Party is attacking Steve Bannon who is an un-elected official because of the ideas that he’s promoting that basically say that the rest of the world needs to unite against the atheist dictatorial Chinese Communist Party.
Carmichael: And we need to be very very clear on the distinction here just like when I attack government unions. I’m not attacking government employees. I’m attacking the union thugs who run the unions. Most government employees are very good people.
And they try to do a good job but they’re put in straight jackets by these unions with work rules and whatnot that make it very very difficult for them to do their jobs effectively. Effectively as they could. And they know that. I’ve had many of them tell me that. And so now you look at the Chinese Communist Party.
It’s a very small group of people relative to the population of China. And they are thugs. The Communist Chinese Party is in the business of promoting and keeping the power for the Communist Chinese Party just like the union thugs jobs are to keep their own power.
Leahy: And they are getting rich.
Carmichael: Very rich.
Leahy: Very rich.
Carmichael: Well very rich. And they love their power. So Bannon now has become a threat. And if the world did unite and if they saw the Chinese Communist Party as an existential threat to proper world order and not the world order that exists today. Because of the world order that existed prior to Trump, the Chinese Communist Party was rocketing to the top of the heap.
And now you have Trump and the Bannons of the world who are saying this is bad for the world. This is not just bad for the United States, this is bad for the world. So, therefore, he is a tremendous threat to the Chinese Communist Party.
Leahy: And as Ben Teitlebaum the author of the book, War for Eternity, seemed to indicate, he thinks it’s perhaps the kind of publicity Steve’s message is getting that is beginning to unite opposition to China and that’s why they’re going after Steve Bannon.
Carmichael: Yes. And within the country of China, any journalist who gets any kind of traction at all attacking the Communist Chinese Party something bad happens to that person. The Chinese Communist Party will not allow dissent.
Look what the Chinese Communist Party is trying to do in Hong Kong. Look what they do to their own people. Look what they did to the American journalists who were trying to report on the Wuhan Virus. Bannon is on to something and its interesting that this fellow has picked up on it.
Leahy: We’re going to have Ben Teitelbaumback on.
Carmichael: That would be great.
Leahy: If he’s got the time we’ll make him a regular guest. He’s a very interesting guy who’s approached this with an open mind. Crom, it is a delight having you back in the studio. Studio freedom week continues phase one and hopefully, we’ll move into phase two next week.
