Commentary: Democrat Presidential Candidates to Provide Comic Relief This Week as McConnell Presses ‘Green New Deal’ Vote

by CHQ Staff

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell has scheduled some comic entertainment for the Senate in the form of a debate and vote on the Democrats’ “Green New Deal” plan.

The debate and vote are expected to come some time later this week. The “Green New Deal” was authored by freshman Socialist Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, (NY-14), and longtime global warming whacko Senator Ed Markey of Massachusetts, it calls for ridding the nation of fossil fuels in the next few decades, among other dramatic environmental and economic changes.

To give Americans some idea of the “dramatic environmental and economic changes” Democrats contemplate, the “Green New Deal” rollout included a fact sheet produced by Ocasio-Cortez’s staff that called for eliminating the need for air travel, retrofitting every house and building to green energy standards, and reforming the nation’s agricultural practices to eliminate cows.

Practicing up for the coming debate, Socialist Rep. Ocasio-Cortez appeared on a Showtime comedy show last week and said, “We need to take a look at factory farming, and maybe we shouldn’t be eating a hamburger for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.”

Socialist Rep. Ocasio-Cortez’s calls to curb methane-producing cows and her proposal to end the alleged environmental damage caused by large-scale farming reminds us of past Socialist efforts to “reform” agriculture in the Soviet Union and Red China. The resulting 1921 famine killed 5 to 8 million people in the old USSR and the famine precipitated by the Red Chinese agricultural “reform” policies killed up to 45 million people between the years 1959 and 1961 and it remains a taboo subject in Red China to this day.

But by all means let’s turn decisions about agricultural production over to a government led by a millennial hipster goofball from Brooklyn and an old urban global warming whacko from Boston and see what happens.

Yes, Every Kid

Socialist Rep. Ocasio-Cortez’s millennial wackiness is indeed comical, but that is not the main source of amusement we anticipate for later this week.

What we are looking for is the comedy produced by the Senate Democrats who are running for President as they twist, gyrate and elocute trying to make it look like they are cool like Socialist Rep. Ocasio-Cortez, without committing to doing anything that will lose them votes in West Virginia, Kentucky, Texas, Louisiana or the Marcellus Shale gas fields of Pennsylvania and Ohio.

Of course, there will always be a spoiler, like Senator Kamala Harris of California, who just ran-off and joined the circus the first day it was in town.

“I’m proud to co-sponsor @AOC and @EdMarkey’s Green New Deal,” Sen. Kamala Harris, D-Calif., who is running for president, said in a tweet reported by The Washington Examiner’s Susan Ferrechio. “We must aggressively tackle climate change which poses an existential threat to our nation.”

Ms. Ferrechio reports other Democrat presidential hopefuls backing the deal include Sens. Elizabeth Warren, (D-MA), Bernie Sanders, (I-VT), and Kristen Gillibrand, (D-NY), as does Julian Castro and Rep. Tulsi Gabbard, (HI-2) – where Sen. Cory “Spartacus” Booker stands remains a mystery, but given his penchant for pratfalls he is bound to tumble into the ring soon.

Sen. Amy Klobuchar, (D-MN)., who entered the presidential race a week ago as a Democrat “moderate,” produced the kind of comedy we are looking for when she was asked on Fox News whether she backs the “Green New Deal.”

“The Green New Deal? I see it as aspirational,” Klobuchar told Fox News according to Ms. Ferrechio’s reporting. Klobuchar said she would vote yes on the resolution, but not necessarily specific legislation aimed at implementing the goals laid out in the nonbinding measure.

“If it got down to the nitty-gritty of an actual legislation, as opposed to, here’s some goals we have, that would be different for me,” she said.

In other words, Klobuchar aspires to the Green New Deal’s socialist goals and authoritarian powers for the government, but she doesn’t want to scare away the last few moderate voters in the Democrats’ coalition.

This week’s Senate debate on the Democrats’ “Green New Deal” is going to be comical, but never forget that behind the zany ideas is the same cold iron hand of Socialist authoritarianism that has killed millions every place and every time it has been tried.
