On Monday’s Tennessee Star Report with Steve Gill and Michael Patrick Leahy – broadcast on Nashville’s Talk Radio 98.3 and 1510 WLAC weekdays from 5:00 am to 8:00 am – host Steve Gill talked about the rat epidemic plaguing Baltimore, Maryland and how Donald Trump’s assessment of the city was seen as racist.
Towards the end of the segment, Gill played clips from both Bernie Sanders describing Baltimore as a third world country and former Mayor Catherine Pugh of Baltimore reacting to a tour commenting on the smells emanating from the stench of dead animals.
Gill: Now, President Trump pointed out that Baltimore is a place that is infested with rats and rodents and vermin. He was talking about actual rats, rodents and vermin. Not the political leadership in Baltimore, but it could apply as well. And he’s been decried as a racist for pointing out what it’s like in Baltimore. Now keep in mind that PBS, you know, that noted whack job right wing conservative news outlet PBS, did a story about rat infestation in Baltimore just about a year ago.
They’ve also done stories about the rat infestation and the dangerous disease levels that we’re seeing places like Los Angeles and San Francisco. You know, San Francisco being where Nancy Pelosi represents her district so well. They’ve got poop on the streets, drug needles everywhere. Rats and typhoid and other diseases running a muck. But by gosh they’re doing it right there. Baltimore by the way got one point eight billion dollars.
And Barack Hussein Obama’s shovel ready reinvestment money, that was supposed to improve their schools. Build their infrastructure. Clean up their neighborhoods. Clean up crime. One point one point eight billion dollars in one American city to fix the city. Now of course the fix was in and a lot of that money went into the pockets of the corrupt-a-crats running Baltimore. In fact they’ve been running Baltimore for decades. The same Democrats.
Is it really a coincidence the Democ-rats, end with rats and they have all these rat problems in these major Democrat run cities? It’s the rat party! It’s right there in their name. So anyway, billions had been spent to fix Baltimore, didn’t fix it. It was also supposed to improve their schools and yet again a (sighs) news story just a few months ago detailing that a local news outlet went in and checked in Baltimore schools in that West Baltimore district that Elijah Cummings represents.
The one that’s been investigating President Trump and calling him a racist for calling out his district, his city. They went in and checked in these school districts. They went into five high schools and one middle school. Not one student taking the state mandated test, not one student, not a single one, none, zip, nada. Not a single one tested as proficient in reading or math. Not one. Not one. Don’t take my word for this. Go to Tennessee Star on Facebook.
We’ve got that story linked up. We’ve got that PBS story linked up detailing the rat problem in Baltimore. And yet the Democrats are scrambling and screaming that Trump is a racist because he tells the truth about Baltimore.
Now interestingly, two others have told the truth about Baltimore who’ve not been called out by the media. Bernie Sanders who’s of course running for President of the United States…again. A few short years ago in two thousand and fifteen Bernie Sanders was running for President and he toured Baltimore. And his assessment of Baltimore was kind of interesting.

The fact of the matter is, is that America is the wealthiest country in the history of the world. But anyone who took the walk that we took, we took around this neighborhood, would not think you’re not in a wealthy nation. You would think that you were in a third world country.
Really, that’s Bernie Sanders in two thousand in fifteen. Nobody called him a racist. Nobody’s calling him a racist today even though that clip is being shared widely on the internet today. Bernie Sanders racist? Will this hurt him in the black community. That he’s calling out Baltimore as a third world country. Now he didn’t call it a s-hole country. He just called it a third world country. Pretty accurately when you look at the test scores. You look at the crime. The violence.
Now he’s not the only one to call out Baltimore and the rat problem for what it is. Other political leaders have done the same thing. Including one a little bit closer to home to Baltimore than Donald Trump. This is the former Mayor Pugh of Baltimore. Who about a year ago toured the same territory with a news crew as she was advancing her “We’re going to deal with crime agenda.” And this was her response to being in the hood.

Pugh: What the hell? We should just take all this s–t in.

Pugh: Ewww, You can smell the rats.
Reporter: Under Baltimore’s violence reduction initiative.
Pugh: Ewww, Jesus.
Reporter: Just last week we went with Mayor Pugh. She toured an East Baltimore neighborhood.
Man: This is the neighborhood. I’ve been down here fifty four years. This is the neighborhood.
Reporter: Baltimore’s violence reduction initiative is about taking steps to rid communities of the cornerstones that contribute to crime.
Pugh: Oh my god. You can smell the dead animals.
Reporter: Blocks of dilapidated buildings help to hide the addiction that’s crippled this community.
Yeah, that’s the former Mayor. Now she’s former Mayor because she got caught up in corruption like virtually every other Mayor of Baltimore. So, she assessed it. Smell the dead rats! Ewww weee! She wasn’t called a racist.
