Florida Governor Ron DeSantis Coming to the Caucus State Next Week

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, one of the presumed heavy hitters in the GOP’s presidential nomination chase, will be in Iowa next week.

And we’ve now learned where former President Donald Trump will be for his promised Iowa campaign stop later this month.

DeSantis has scheduled two events for next Friday — one in Davenport, the other to promote his new book, “The Courage to be Free.” He’ll be talking about his “Freedom Blueprint,” according to the campaign.

The popular governor will be accompanied by Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds, according to the Associated Press. Reynolds, a Republican, has said she will endorse no candidate before Iowa’s first-in-the-nation caucuses early next year.

Reynolds last month appeared at campaign stops with former South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley and U.S. Sen. Tim Scott (R-South Carolina). Haley announced her run for the White House a couple of weeks ago; Scott, sources say, is on the verge of announcing his campaign.

DaSantis has said he’ll make his decision “once the dust settles” on Florida’s 2023 legislative session. An official from the Republican Party of Polk County may have said it best, however: You don’t come to Iowa 11 months before the caucuses just to promote a book.

Meanwhile, Trump will be in Davenport for a campaign rally beginning at 6:15 p.m. on Monday, March 13. The event, according to the Scott County Republicans, will be held at the Adler Theater, 136 E. 3rd Street, downtown Davenport. Doors open at 3 p.m. and the program begins at 5:30 p.m. He begins at 6:15 p.m.
