Former Acting Director of ICE Tom Homan Sees Trouble for America’s Open Borders

Live from Washington, D.C.’s FAIR event Wednesday morning on The Tennessee Star Report with Michael Patrick Leahy – broadcast on Nashville’s Talk Radio 98.3 and 1510 WLAC weekdays from 5:00 a.m. to 8:00 a.m. – host Leahy welcomed author and former acting director of ICE Tom Homan to the microphone to describe the morale of ICE officials, Alejandro Mayorkas’s dereliction of duty, and the consequences of open borders.

Leahy: We are joined right here by our good friend, fellow Upstate New Yorker, former acting director of ICE, Tom Homan. Good morning, Tom.

Homan: Good morning.

Leahy: Well, is it a good morning, or is the country in deep trouble?

Homan: Oh, we’re in trouble. I mean, this administration is lawless, especially when it comes to the border.

Leahy: I think you and I have talked a little bit before. Alejandro Mayorkas, have had interactions with him?

Homan: Yes. He was a deputy secretary in 2014-2015 during one surge, and I met with him numerous times to deal with that surge back then.

Leahy: Now, he’s a very intelligent guy. But I have to tell you honestly, he is perhaps the most practiced liar in modern American history. It seems to me.

Homan: I once respected the man when he was deputy secretary because of the first surge of ’14, ’15, how do we deal with it? We built detention facilities, we detained them, we made them see a judge. 90 percent lose their case.

They simply don’t qualify for asylum. They don’t show up. If they were released and we removed them, we sent planeloads back and the numbers on the border went down because we showed that we had a system of consequence.

He knows how to fix it. We fixed that in ’14, ’15. What’s he doing now? He’s not detaining them. They’re not seeing the judge. Their getting released without a court date.

And ICE can no longer remove that criminal. So they’re doing the complete opposite of what they know will work and shut this down. So they don’t want to shut this down.

Leahy: It’s intentional.

Homan: It’s intentional. It’s by design. This is open borders. This is what open borders look like.

Leahy: And it’s an intentional violation of our immigration laws.

Homan: Absolutely. Show me one thing this administration has done to slow the flow. They’ve nothing to slow.

Leahy: They’ve done everything to increase the flow.

Homan: All their efforts have been how quickly can we process people and release them? They bragged that the President got them stays. Well, we got 90 percent of border custody, not because they removed them because they released them.

So they have sent hundreds of Barbara, hundreds down there, and they’re all assigned to process them. Process them quicker release them quicker. Not one of them went down there to do border security.

Leahy: If we were to really have an honest moment, a moment where Alejandro Mayorkas was honest and we asked him, are you intentionally violating American laws and opening borders? How would he answer that if he were honest about what he’s really doing?

Homan: If he was honest he’d have to say yes.

Leahy: What’s the end game?

Homan: Let’s remember he was a U.S. attorney. He knows exactly what he’s doing, and it’s shameful. It’s criminal. I’ve been involved with the lawsuit in Texas and Florida. I’ve written more affidavits suing this president than I did as a special agent.

And we are three and zero right now. Not only are they ignoring the law, but they’re also actually violating the law. And we are going to keep on.

Leahy: Tell us about those suits and what the prospects for the future are.

Homan: I’m working really closely with the Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton, another great patriot. We followed a lawsuit against the 100-day moratorium.

I wrote an affidavit on that. The judge said you’re not going to do that. Then we wrote a lawsuit on the ICE priority because 91 percent of everybody ICE arrested last year were criminals. But that wasn’t good enough when the Biden administration came in and took a lot of criminals off the table.

He said you can’t arrest criminals anymore. 90 percent of that they didn’t want to arrest. With a record number of illegal crossings on the border, ICE had the lowest number of arrests in the history of the agency last month.

It’s just the opposite of what it should be. So we sued on that. We won on that. And that’s in the Fifth Circuit. Now we got to stay on it.

And the last one we won was the Remain in Mexico program. We sued. We wanted the Remain in Mexico program to be put back in. We want that one.

Leahy: And what’s happening now?

Homan: They’re slow rolling.

Leahy: Of course they are.

Homan: You need Mexico’s assistance. They’re not going to do it. When President Trump did get on there and say, Mexico, you’re going to do this, or I’m going to tariff the hell out of you. I’m sure there are side conversations saying, hey, look, don’t cooperate and we can make it work.

Leahy: Last question. What’s the morale of ICE agents right now?

Homan: It’s terrible. There is no morale. These guys walk around like zombies and I’ve been down there five times on the border.

These guys walk around and they just stare off in this space. They’re working or 24/7 doing nothing but processing families. They don’t know what it’s like to be on a border anymore and actually do their homeland security.

Leahy: This is what we got with Joe Biden.

Homan: Yes, absolutely. This is open borders.
