Live from Washington D.C. at the FAIR event Wednesday morning on The Tennessee Star Report with Michael Patrick Leahy – broadcast on Nashville’s Talk Radio 98.3 and 1510 WLAC weekdays from 5:00 a.m. to 8:00 a.m. – host Leahy welcomed DEA special ops division, former Special Agent Derek Maltz to the microphone to discuss the deadly implications of drugs laced with lethal doses of fentanyl running rampant in America.
Leahy: We are delighted to welcome to our microphones right now, fellow New York Stater, Derek Maltz. Derek, you were the special agent in charge of the US Department of Justice Drug Enforcement Administration’s Special Operations Division from 2005 to 2014. Welcome, Derek.
Maltz: Thank you, Michael. It’s great to be here again.
Leahy: We interviewed you two years ago. We found we have something in common. You’re a Syracuse University graduate. I lived near Oneida as a kid and I used to root for the Syracuse Orange. My grandmother is a graduate of Syracuse University, so we love Syracuse Orange.
Maltz: Thank you, Michael. It was a great time up there. Four years. Don’t miss the weather.
Leahy: No one misses that weather. Believe me. Now that’s one of the many reasons, in addition to the fact that we have no state income tax, that we moved to Nashville back in 1990. And you won’t be able to drag me out of there because it’s a beautiful place, as our listeners know.
Now, Derek, off-mic during the break, you talked about something very, very concerning and very dangerous. And that’s the connection between China and the drug cartels that are having their way with the country now under the Biden maladministration.
Maltz: Right. Michael, we have a very dangerous and lethal situation here. We have a partnership that we’ve never seen in the history of the country where the Chinese transnational criminals are helping the Mexican cartels.
They’re working with them daily, providing the chemicals that are killing our kids. Right now, they’re the enemy of the children. And we have never seen in the history of the country kids dying like they’ve been dying.
We had a rally on August 27. I was participating with families from 35 States. There were kids who have died. They’re devastated. They had never heard of fentanyl.
But the fentanyl chemicals are coming from China, and they’re also providing the key money-laundering services for the cartels, which we’ve never seen. So the drugs are being made in the labs in Mexico.
Now they’re making the fake pills, which are all over the country, flooding our streets. But more importantly, they’re helping the cartels with the money.
So without the chemicals, without the money, you can’t have a supply. Unfortunately, no one’s paying attention, and the mainstream media is burying it.
Leahy: Yes. They are burying it. That’s for sure. Here’s my question about this. And I ask all of the guests here. My whole approach or theory on this is that the Biden maladministration is intentionally attempting to destroy our constitutional Republic. You look at the evidence here. What are they doing to stop this Chinese cartel connection?
Maltz: They’re not even talking about it. That’s my big thing. Let’s start with the basics. They’re not even wanting the public. Isn’t that the basic fundamental responsibility of the government, especially the White House?
You have a chemical weapon attack on our country. That’s a fact. Just look at the numbers. We have never seen it. As I said, I deal with the families every day. I make photo collages of the dead kids. I talk to the families.
I know the stories. And no one’s even talking about it. We finally had this past week, the DEA administrator put out a very nice story on NBC talking about this. But the pills are all over the place.
Just as an example, this is something I always like to tell people. In 2015, the DEA and Phoenix office see zero fake Mexican Oxy pills. Those are the killer pills. 2020, there were six million seas, 2021, seven million seas.
Here are the facts. Dea put out that 40 percent of the pills have a lethal dose of fentanyl. Think about that. That’s one DEA office seeing seven million pills this year.
The DEA just put out that they seized 9.5 million pills this year alone. So guess what? 40 percent of 9.5 million. They saved a lot of lives. And guess what? The stuff’s everywhere.
Leahy: Now, let me ask you this question. Do you still have friends in the DEA?
Maltz: Every day I talk to them.
Leahy: What do they tell you the Biden administration’s attitude towards this crisis is?
Maltz: First of all, they have not been able to talk to the national news. That’s why I’m getting inundated with requests because they feed me the intelligence so I can provide accurate and up-to-date information.
They’re disgusted that there’s no communication, there’s no plan, there’s no strategy. They’re still talking about the opioid crisis like this is 20 years ago. Kids are using their parents’ pills from the medicine cabinet.
Don’t get me wrong. But right now, the kids are dying instantly from fentanyl poisoning. And it’s not just from the pills. Fentanyl is in methamphetamine, cocaine, and heroin.
So kids now are dropping from snorting cocaine, which has never been heard of ever. People and families are wondering what is going on. And the government is not talking about it. So it’s very frustrating.
Leahy: Your friends in the DEA, why is the Biden maladministration doing nothing about this?
Maltz: Everybody is really perplexed because you can’t even imagine if you just look at the open borders and you see the people running across the border. But, Michael, you know what else they’re not talking about?
You look at the people that are getting into the country. Who are they, where do they come from? What are they doing here? What was their intent to be here? I’m not talking about the apprehensions.
The 1.5 million that’s already in the first eleven months of the year. I’m talking about the guys that just run across the border. Where are they coming from? There are 150 countries.
They’re stopping people from 150 countries, the Middle East, Iran, China. So we have a big issue, and it’s really mind-boggling that nobody’s even paying attention. There should be outrage.
Thank God Texas is stepping up. The Texas governor and the DPS are down there fighting hard, but it’s brutal. And all of our cities are going to be impacted big time. You won’t feel it immediately. But over time, it’s going to be a disaster.
Leahy: If we had sitting right next to you right now, Attorney General Garland, what would you tell him?
Maltz: First of all, to be honest with you, I have no respect for the man because he’s not upholding the constitutional rights of the citizens. He’s not fighting for the people. He’s not keeping the people safe.
If you don’t have a border and you don’t have public safety, you don’t have a country. And right now it’s falling apart. I hate to be doom and gloom, but I pay attention to this stuff every day.
Leahy: So what would you tell him?
Maltz: I would tell him to resign. No, I’m gonna tell you what I say all the time. Ronald Reagan had a quote. If you can’t get him to see the light, make him feel the heat. Right? So he’s got to feel the heat. And ultimately, he’s got to move on.
If he’s not going to do his job, move on, let somebody else. You can’t be the attorney general and not take on the responsibility of protecting the people.
That’s what it comes down to. If you just want the title and the bodyguards and the drivers, you could do it a little bit, but just go on to another career, because right now we need public safety.
Leahy: Let’s say the next guest sitting next to you is Alejandro Mayorkas the secretary of Homeland Security, what would you tell him?
Maltz: Resign immediately because he’s worse. He’s lying every day to the public. Look what he says, the border is closed. They’re not gonna make a safe journey to America. Meanwhile, they’re coming in. He doesn’t even have the numbers.
You’re talking about, like, irresponsible. When he was asked to Congress the other day about the numbers of people being released in the country the Haitians, he can’t even answer. I know the CBP in the Border Patrol has tremendous statistics.
They have everything. So why didn’t he release it? Because he doesn’t want it. He’s hiding it because he doesn’t want to be under attack. But he’s already under attack. He needs to resign. That’s the bottom line.
Leahy: Is there a more brazen liar in American history than the secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas?
Maltz: I’m not aware of anyone worse. I mean, the politicians, for the most part, they’ve been lying for years here in the Beltway. There was a reason that President Trump called it the Swamp.
And I totally love that expression because I have lived it for ten years. And I see they’re all about themselves. They’re self-centered. They’re thinking about their egos and their bank accounts and not thinking about the public’s safety.
Leahy: Can you give us any note of optimism here Derek?
Maltz: I can tell you it’s hard from what my perspective is because I’m dealing with the families that are losing the kids every day. It’s definitely getting worse in regards to the poisonous overdose deaths. They’re not opioid deaths.
They are fentanyl murders and fentanyl poison and drug-induced homicides. And the good news is that law enforcement is resilient. Law enforcement is working hard every day, despite all the negative defund the police attitudes, they’re still fighting through it.
They’re making good arrests. But it’s really difficult because a lot of them are leaving because the morale is so low. Look at the Border Patrol. The poor guys on the horses are doing their job trying to save Americans, and they’re getting criticized by the President.
He’s actually out there making statements criticizing them with a full investigation. He doesn’t even know what he’s talking about. And so the police are under attack, but they’re resilient.
They’ll get through it. The way I look at it is like I said, just look at the DEA in Phoenix. Nine million pills they seized. That’s a tremendous amount of people’s lives. So that’s positive in my perspective.
Leahy: And I guess for our listeners, the parents with kids who are sort of high school age, college-age. I think perhaps a warning should be don’t do any drugs because you don’t know if there’s some deadly fentanyl in them.
Maltz: It’s like Russian roulette. If you’re not getting the pill from your doctor and from a legitimate pharmacy, do not take the pill because there is a 40 percent chance you’re gonna die. That’s really not the odds that I want to take.
Leahy: 40 percent.
Maltz: That’s what the DEA put out this week. Two out of five pills have a lethal dose. It only takes two milligrams to four milligrams of fentanyl to kill you.
Leahy: Derek Maltz, thanks so much for joining us. Keep up the great work.
Maltz: Thank you, Michael. I appreciate it.
