Former Minnesotan EJ Haust: Tim Walz ‘Cannot Be Trusted,’ ‘Should Be Nowhere Near the White House’

EJ Haust, a digital marketing expert and former journalist who lived in Minnesota for 12 years before relocating to Tennessee, said Minnesota Governor and Democratic vice presidential nominee Tim Walz’s brief appearance on CBS’ “60 Minutes” special, which aired on Monday, further proves that he “cannot be trusted” and “should be nowhere near the White House.”

During the interview, CBS correspondent Bill Whitaker pressed Walz about his answer during the vice presidential debate against U.S. Senator JD Vance (R-OH) regarding his false claim that he was in China in the spring of 1989 as the Tiananmen Square protests took place.

Walz admitted during the debate that he “misspoke” and didn’t arrive in China until the summer of 1989, further saying he can be a “knucklehead” at times.

On “60 Minutes,” Whitaker pressed Walz on whether he could be trusted after “misrepresenting” the timeline of his time in China in 1989.

Walz maintained that he “got a date wrong” when “telling a story,” adding, “I will own up to being a knucklehead at times, but the folks closest to me know that I keep my word.”

Haust said Walz’s downplaying of his lies about being in China during the Tiananmen Square protests is another example of how the Democratic governor “cannot be trusted.”

“That’s not just missing a date,” Haust explained on Tuesday’s edition of The Michael Patrick Leahy Show.

“He flat out lied to make it sound like he was there at a very pivotal and important time in history,” Haust added.

Haust pointed out that Walz’s lie about his arrival in China is not the only lie the governor has been caught telling since becoming Vice President Kamala Harris’ running mate in the presidential election.

“What about the IVF comment? What about the M16 and battle comment? What about the Command Sergeant Major comments? What about the kids only missing 10 days of school in Minnesota? You know darn well that didn’t happen because in December of 2021, those kids were still out of school. He said he was deaf to try to avoid a DUI. Then, of course, the $250 million fraud that he knew about, but then he said he didn’t know about it, but he really knew about it,” Haust said.

“That guy can not be trusted and he should be nowhere near the White House,” Haust stressed.

Aside from telling lies, Haust also brought attention to how Walz’s “persona” has significantly changed since becoming Harris’ running mate, explaining how he has now become a “cheerleader” and “puppet” for the vice president.

“He’s probably been told by the handlers that his role is the cheerleader. You are the knucklehead. You are the dad in plaid. Go out there and throw your hands in the air like a weird cheerleader. It’s absolutely bizarre what they have made his persona to be,” Haust said.

“I lived in Minnesota for 12 years, we saw him when he was six terms in the U.S. House, we saw him as governor, and that persona is not the same human,” Haust added.
