Former President Trump Encourages Local Political Participation by Republicans

Former President Donald Trump on Sunday encouraged Republicans to become involved in politics at the local level – specifically, by becoming a precinct committeeman.

Trump endorsed a movement, entitled the “Precinct Strategy,” to engage Republicans and “America First” supporters.

“Just heard about an incredible effort underway that will strengthen the Republican Party. The ‘Precinct Strategy’ is enlisting America First Patriots to their local County Republican Party committees, positions which are too often left vacant. If members of our Great movement start getting involved (that means YOU becoming a precinct committeeman for your voting precinct), we can take back our great Country from the ground up,” Trump said in a statement.

According to the group’s website, in order to influence decisions at the state level, individuals must become involved at the local party level. “The first step in taking back our government, by electing better, people, is by taking back the Republican Party from those running it now,” the website says.

The Precinct Strategy website further states, “America First Americans must take their political activities ‘into’ the Republican Party by becoming precinct committeemen and thereby transform the Party from a half-strength, ideologically-split party into a full-strength, solidly-conservative party to help the BEST America First candidates win the all-important, usually-very-low-turnout primary elections by helping to boost turnout of conservative Republicans in every voting precinct.”

“You’re not in the [Republican] party unless you’re a Precinct Committeeman. Precinct Committeemen are the Party,” long time activist and designer of the Strategy, Dan Schultz, said.

Obtaining Republican Party Committee membership is explained in three steps on the Precinct Strategy website:

Yes, Every Kid
  1. Contact your county Republican Party Committee, find out when and where it or your local district Party Committee meets (terminology varies from state to state), and attend the meeting.
  2. Ask if a vacant precinct committeeman position exists for your precinct and volunteer to be appointed to fill it.
  3. Ask for a copy of the precinct committeeman handbook of your state party committee and study it and learn how to run for precinct committeeman in the next election for these positions.

Trump added that it is a “great way to restore our Republic by transforming our Party from currently at less than half-strength at the precinct level into a full-strength Get Out The Vote powerhouse—as it should be.”
