Grant’s Rants: ‘Americans Deserve Stronger Leadership Than What We Have Right Now’

Live from Music Row Tuesday morning on The Tennessee Star Report with Michael Patrick Leahy – broadcast on Nashville’s Talk Radio 98.3 and 1510 WLAC weekdays from 5:00 a.m. to 8:00 a.m. – host Leahy welcomed the official guest host of The Tennessee Star Report Grant Henry in studio for another edition of Grant’s Rants on conservatism and liberty.

Leahy: Grant Henry, the official guest host of The Tennessee Star Report and master of ceremonies extraordinaire has Grant’s Rants for us right now.

Henry: That is correct. So last week the House finally passed the $1.2 trillion “bipartisan infrastructure bill.” Here’s The Tennessee Star headline House Passes Infrastructure Bill as Democrats pave way for a huge social spending package.

But the most important part of this article is in the second paragraph where it says that with 13 Republicans joining all but six Democrats in support of the infrastructure spending plan and sending President Joe Biden a much-needed victory for his signature.

Here is the question, Michael. What happened to our conservatives in this country? What happened to the notion of properly stewarding the people’s money? Fiscal conservatism used to be a cornerstone of the Republican platform, yet now the spending habits of Democrats and Republicans are virtually indistinguishable on occasions that are becoming anything but rare.

The following quotes I’m about to read are taken directly from the 2016 Republican Party platform. Tell me if you can see the difference here.

Yes, Every Kid

“The huge increase in the national debt demanded by and incurred during the current administration (the Obama administration then) has placed a significant burden on future generations. We must impose firm caps on future debt, accelerate the repayment of trillions we owe now, in order to reaffirm our principles of responsible and limited government. The federal fiscal burden threatens the security, liberty, and independence of our nation. A strong economy is a key to debt reduction. But, listen to this. Spending restraint is a necessary component that must be vigorously pursued. Our Republican majority in 2016 ended the practice of earmarks, which often diverted transportation spending to politically favored projects.”

Sounds familiar. Yet the Obama administration subordinates civil engineering to social engineering as it pursues an exclusively urban vision of dense housing and government transit. So here’s the point, Michael.

Everything these 13 Republicans voted for last week is the literal opposite of what the Republican Party stood for just a few years ago, and what the overwhelming majority of us continue to stand against right now.

Even CNN, of all outlets is forced to recognize that this bill is projected to add $256 billion in federal deficits over the next ten years. It’s absolutely despicable behavior to see lawmakers using this “bipartisan bill” to push through an irrefutably, wasteful, expensive, ineffective bill loaded with pet project spending.

Americans deserve stronger leadership than what we have right now. We deserve more than those willing to use important issues like infrastructure as a Trojan horse to sneak in reckless social engineering programs.

We will no longer stand for elected representatives like these 13 that have lost sight of what it means to be conservative. We will no longer stand for elected representatives that refuse to hear the voice of the people.

I stand with Thomas Jefferson and asserting that we must not let our rulers load us with perpetual debt. Guarding against this here and now is vital to our perseverance and preservation of our independence.

The time has come where we must make an election between economy and liberty or profusion and servitude. And Michael, I choose liberty.
