So Twitter is back at it again, doing what Twitter does best, banning people from its platform. Here’s the Reuters headline. Twitter Permanently Bans U.S. Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene for some repeated violation of who cares anyways. Honestly, is anyone surprised though?
Twitter has been signaling for years that something like this is coming. When Dick Costolo was CEO of Twitter 10 years ago you might remember that he claimed Twitter’s “the free speech wing of the Free Speech Party.”
Now, as we laugh about that today, it’s clear that version of Twitter, the one that would usher in a new age of online enlightenment and thoughtful dialogue, is a relic of the past forever tainted by a leftist cesspool, hell-bent on squelching any semblance of actual diversity.
Now, listen, banning politicians is one thing. But Twitter had stepped up its game recently when it decided to ban Dr. Robert Malone.
Now here’s the headline from The Epoch Times. Twitter suspends key mRNA vaccine contributor Dr. Robert Malone. Yes, that is correct. Now, Michael, you and I could sit here for hours and wax poetic about the virtues and values that underlie the First Amendment.
If we wanted to, we could say the same thing as Anthony Lewis that those who won our independence believe that the freedom to think as you will and to speak as you think are means indispensable to the discovery and spread of political truth.
We could talk about these things, Michael. But would it even matter when the current CEO of Twitter says that Twitter is no longer even trying to create a product that respects or even recognizes the virtues and values of free speech, let alone any kind of diversity of thought?
In fact, Twitter is openly telling us that they are proactively working against a free speech platform. Here’s the headline itself. New Twitter CEO says the company’s role is, “not bound by the First Amendment.”
And you know what he’s right. Twitter is a private company and a private company is not bound by the First Amendment. But those that love freedom would do well to recognize that there are some people in this country that are not interested in a free exchange of ideas.
They’re much more interested in control. There are some that are not interested in freedom. They are much more interested in controlling information, censoring conversation, and creating a new preclass. I will not participate anymore, Michael. I’m quitting Twitter today.
