Grant’s Rants: The De-platforming and De-banking of Deplorables

Canadian signs and flags held up by several people

Live from Music Row Tuesday morning on The Tennessee Star Report with Michael Patrick Leahy – broadcast on Nashville’s Talk Radio 98.3 and 1510 WLAC weekdays from 5:00 a.m. to 8:00 a.m. – host Leahy welcomed official guest host Grant Henry in the studio for another edition of Grant’s Rants.

GRANT HENRY:

How soon will it be until Americans’ bank accounts are frozen for speech deemed unacceptable by a new priest class? Look, I know many of you might think this question borders on absurd hyperbole or fear-mongering, however, on Wednesday, Canadian Justice Minister David Lametti went on television to boldly proclaim the quiet part out loud, essentially saying, “Anyone contributing to a pro-Trump movement should be worried about their bank accounts and other financial assets being frozen.”

Anyone contributing to should be worried. David Sacks wrote a piece on Sunday entitled “A Social Credit System Arrives in Canada.” And he asked the question, can we stop this dystopian policy from making its way into America? He makes some fascinating arguments and had me wondering the same thing.

Can’t we stop what’s happening in Canada from coming to America? Now, David Sacks and several others have warned us for years about financial de-platforming, the next wave of online censorship. Of course, we’re all aware of the general censorship of information dissemination.

We all know how easy it is for conservatives to have their accounts restricted or banned. However, many are unaware that Big Tech companies like PayPal had been working with left-wing groups like Defamation League and Southern Poverty Law Center for years to define lists of individuals and groups who should be denied service.

Yes, Every Kid

Many of you have also followed the story of Alex Jones having his PayPal account and bank accounts frozen years ago due to being labeled as, quote, a “domestic terrorist.” And at the time, many of us wrote this off as a fringe case or an extreme example.

But some experts warned that Alex Jones was merely the test case for something much larger to come. And as more and more similarly minded tech companies follow suit in social media censorship, experts predicted that these deplorables would be de-platformed and de-banked and eventually denied access to the modern economy altogether: a punishment for their unacceptable views.

And I’m here to tell you, ladies and gentlemen, that that prediction has become reality. Last Monday, Justin Trudeau unjustifiably invoked the Emergencies Act. But Tuesday night, he ramped up the fascistic fervor by invoking a war on terror law called the Proceeds in Crime and Terrorist Financing Act.

The order requires financial institutions like banks and credit unions and companies to stop providing any financial-related services to anyone associated with the protests. Anyone associated, they’re called a “designated person” who confers to someone that is either directly or indirectly participating in these protests as well.

In other words, a designated person can just as easily be a grandmother who donated $25 to support the truckers as one who actually organizes the convoy. And don’t you dare sit here and tell me that this was not part of the plan all along.

For years, ideologues have accused us of bigotry, and hounded people from their jobs. Kicking them off social media and rescinding their right to participate in the online economy. Our own mainstream media has cheered and egged Justin Trudeau on as he descends further and further into stoic authoritarianism. Listen to CNN contributor Juliette N. Kayyem.

She took to Twitter to encourage Trudeau’s government to “First, slash their tires, empty their bank accounts, empty their gas tanks, arrest the drivers, cancel their insurance, suspend their driver’s license, and prohibit any future regulatory verification for truckers. Trust me,” she declared, “I will not run out of ways to make them hurt.”

One suspects that Trudeau won’t either. And funny, it’s almost as if the cruelty is the point for these people. So again, I remind you, all of what the Canadian Justice Minister said last Wednesday, quote:

“Anyone contributing to a pro-Trump movement should be worried about their bank accounts and other financial assets being frozen.”

And again I asked the question, how soon will it be until this kind of social credit score makes its way to American soil?

Good article Grant. Also should mention that if you hold crypto, get it off the exchanges and into private wallets. Much harder for them to steal it from you.
