K&L Gates LLP, the global law firm that employs former U.S. Representative Bart Gordon (D-TN-06), has opened a Nashville office.
K&L Gates announced it has set up a Nashville law office with more than 25 lawyers handling health care, litigation, corporate, intellectual property, finance, and construction, and other specialties.
The office is located on Second Avenue South.
Mary Beth F. Johnston is the managing partner. She concentrates on health law, representing major academic medical centers, hospital and health systems, accountable care organizations and provider networks, and pharmacy and clinical laboratory providers.
Johnston said, “Nashville’s status as a leading center for the health care industry of course creates significant and strategic synergies with our national health care practice. In this regard, we are thrilled to have added premier health care transactional and regulatory lawyers to this office at the start. But the city’s strong growth in the technology, finance, construction, manufacturing, and related industries also provides many other outstanding opportunities for our firm, its clients, and the Nashville business community. We are pleased to have been able to assemble some of the finest legal talent Nashville has to offer across these practices, and look forward to continuing to add more top-tier lawyers in the coming months and years.”
Gordon is not affiliated with the Nashville office, but said in a statement, “I’m excited about the firm opening its 45th office in my home state of Tennessee. Nashville is a vibrant and welcoming business community, a strategic place for the firm, and offers growth opportunities in a number of industry sectors while serving as the gateway to Tennessee and the South.”
Gordon works at the firm’s Washington, D.C., office. He joined K&L Gates as a partner after retiring from Congress following the 2010 election. He represented the Nashville area in the House for 26 years. Gordon was chairman of the Tennessee Democratic Party from 1981-1983.
The Nashville office marks K&L Gates’ 24th location in the United States and 45th in the world.
In addition to Johnston, K&L Gates’ new Nashville lawyers include 18 attorneys who were previously partners at other firms including Waller Lansden Dortch & Davis, LLP; Butler Snow LLP; Dickinson Wright PLLC; and Bass, Berry & Sims PLC.
