Dr. Manny Sethi, a Republican who wants to replace the retiring U.S. Sen. Lamar Alexander, thanked everyone involved in the operation that resulted in the death of ISIS leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi.
“The world’s number one terrorist has been brought to justice! To the specialists, the officers, the President, and all who helped make this happen: thank you,” Sethi wrote on Twitter Sunday.

U.S. Republican President Donald Trump, speaking at the White House Sunday, described al-Baghdadi as “the world’s No. 1 terrorist.”
“Al-Baghdadi led the extremist organization known as the Islamic State, or ISIS. Trump said he died after running from a house into a dead-end tunnel while being chased by U.S. commandos in northwest Syria. Al-Baghdadi detonated a suicide vest that killed him and three of his children,” according to USA Today’s account of what Trump said.
“He died like a dog. He died like a coward. The world is now a much safer place,” USA Today quoted Trump as saying.
“He was a sick and depraved man, and now he’s gone.”
As FOX News reported, al-Baghdadi used a suicide vest to kill himself during a U.S. raid on a compound in northwest Syria.
“Al-Baghdadi, whose real name is Ibrahim ibn Awwad Ibrahim Ali al-Badri al-Samarrai, took over ISIS in 2010 after previous leader Abu Omar al-Baghdadi was killed,” according to the network.
FOX News went on to say “al-Baghdadi was the world’s most wanted man, with a $25 million price on his head.”
As The Tennessee Star reported last month, Sethi said Tennessee voters may rest assured he, if elected, won’t fall in with the Washington D.C. establishment.
And if he does replace Alexander then Sethi said his medical background gives him the skill set he needs to do something a lot of U.S. senators cannot — get his policies enacted into law.
“I met my wife when I was 16. We have two children, a six-year-old and a three-year-old. I’ve developed a thriving trauma practice in a non-profit. I wouldn’t walk away from that to go up to Washington, D.C. to sell out to some swamp,” Sethi told The Star.
“I’m going out there to keep the American dream alive, the same dream that my parents came here to find. That’s why I’m doing it and that is why the establishment is so scared of me, because they know that I won’t back down. There are things like the debt ceiling. We can’t call ourselves conservatives and spend like we’re spending. We can’t call ourselves conservative when we continue to keep Obamacare alive. That’s crazy. Those are the things I’ll fight for. You have my word.”
Sethi said it’s also time for folks outside of government to step up to fix immigration and health care.
