Tennessee’s two U.S. senators on Tuesday formally objected to putting former President Donald Trump on trial for a second impeachment.
Trump left office one week ago.
U.S. Sen. Marsha Blackburn (R-TN) and U.S. Sen. Bill Hagerty (R-TN) announced their positions while posting on their respective social media platforms.
This, after U.S. Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) forced his colleagues to vote on the constitutionality of holding an impeachment trial for a former president. According to American Greatness, the vote was 55 to 45.
Blackburn tweeted Tuesday that she supported Paul’s objection “to holding a partisan, unconstitutional trial against a former president.”
“It is time for our country to move forward, instead of looking backwards and fighting the same battles with each other,” Blackburn wrote.
Hagerty emailed a press release and also called Trump’s second impeachment trial unconstitutional.
“Today I was sworn-in for the upcoming trial, but this solemn oath was administered by a Democrat Senator, rather than the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, further supporting the view that this continued impeachment effort against a former President is an unconstitutional, political sideshow,” Hagerty wrote.
“Under Article 2, Section 4 of the U.S. Constitution, a presidential impeachment trial—the purpose of which is to determine whether the President should be removed from office—must involve ‘The President,’ and Article 1, Section 3 provides that, ‘When the President of the United States is tried, the Chief Justice shall preside.’ Yet, ‘the President’ is not on trial, and the Chief Justice is not presiding, which speaks volumes about the constitutionality of this proceeding. It’s time to focus on controlling the pandemic, and getting the American people back to work, and our children safely back in school, which is why I voted to end this.”
Hagerty tweeted Tuesday that he and his Republican colleagues “are focused on helping the millions of hard-working Americans who are suffering,” referring to the COVID-19 pandemic.

So Blackburn and Hagerty are trying to redeem themselves with voters.
I am like an elephant, I ain’t gonna forget what these two RINOs did!
i would like to thank both of theses senators for standing up for tennessee. as for you other posters on here you could have phil bredesen and harold ford representing you.
Nice try Marsha but you are still the new Hanoi Jane (Mushy Marsha) and Hagerty is still the Benedict Arnold we always knew he would be.
Bill Hagerty and Marsha Blackburn are you going to ask Mitch to resign as leader? Mitch stated that Trump incited the capitol riot, without proof! Both of you supported Mitch for leader, shouldn’t you ask him to resign from leadership or do you support his unfounded allegations against Trump! The house GOP is calling for RINO Liz Cheney to resign! Do you two support Mitch’s unfounded allegations? Do you value Mitch over Tennesseans that elected you? We need new younger leadership in the senate like Josh Hawley, Tom Cotton or Ted Cruz! Mitch is bad optics….
Marsha and Rino Hagerty placed Washington ahead of Tennesseans interests! After stating their support for an election audit! They changed their minds and voted with the rino establishment Mitch McConnell! They both supported 78 year old tired Mitch for leader! Come on Bill and Marsha can’t you support a younger more energetic senator for leader? A senator that does not turn his back on MAGA? You two would not be elected if it was not for Trump! Marsha please don’t run for office anymore, you have been in washington since 2003! You are the swamp!!!!
This show trial just exemplifies how scared the Left is of President Trump. It’s just beginning.
A planned riot at the Capitol so they didn’t have to debate the electoral vote challenges and then proceeded to certify a fraudulent election. The Italian affidavit was delivered to Congress before they voted so they had the evidence. Marsha and Bill are traitors that do Mitch McConnell’s bidding, don’t let them fool you with conservative smoke and mirrors.
Well these 2 were part of this fiasco. We won’t forget it either!!
