Matt Boyle, the national political editor at Breitbart News, said sources familiar with and from inside Vice President Kamala Harris’ presidential campaign are “depressed” as the state of the race continues to move in favor of former President Donald Trump.
Pointing to the NBC News poll released this week showing Harris’ previous five-point lead over Trump nationally diminished down to a dead heat between the two candidates just three weeks out from Election Day, Boyle said the momentum behind Trump has caused “massive infighting” within the Democratic campaign.
“Donald Trump has the lead nationally. He has an opportunity not just to win the electoral college but to win the national popular vote as well. If he did, if he was able to pull that off, that would be obviously a historic mandate-level win for Donald Trump, and the Democrats are fighting with each other,” Boyle explained on Tuesday’s edition of The Michael Patrick Leahy Show.
“Trump has all the momentum and Kamala Harris is sliding in a big way, essentially in a complete collapse, the Democrats are finger pointing, passing blame trying to figure out who’s responsible for this. Meanwhile, the Kamala Harris campaign are all fighting with each other. My sources tell me that Jen O’Malley Dillon and David Plouffe are not getting along,” Boyle added.
Boyle said the campaign’s infighting and Harris’ loss of momentum have led to the strategy of “throwing everything they can against the wall and see what sticks,” given Harris’ sudden plethora of interviews within the past week and coming days.
“Kamala’s out there desperately trying to change the conversation in interviews. She keeps doing these interviews. She’s got another one today with Charlamagne tha God from the Breakfast Club – she’ll be doing that in Detroit later on. Tomorrow, she’s doing Fox News. Last week, she did The View, Howard Stern, and a bunch of others to which none seem to be working,” Boyle explained.
Boyle likened Harris’ strategy to a losing football team that attempts Hail Mary passes in the fourth quarter to win the game.
“It’s like a quarterback whose team is down 17 points right at the beginning of the fourth quarter. They get the ball, and then all of a sudden, they’re just chucking up prayers, Hail Mary passes,” Boyle said.
“Kamala Harris is not Aaron Rodgers. She’s not going to hit a 50 yard pass right before halftime. It’s not the case. If anything, she’s throwing interceptions and we’re seeing that non stop here with every time she tries to throw up another Hail Mary, she makes another mistake. There’s another penalty, there’s another interception, there’s a turnover, there’s a fumble. She’s in trouble. The momentum is with Trump and Kamala Harris is in complete collapse,” Boyle added.
Regarding Republicans moving forward the next 21 days until Election Day, Boyle advised Trump to continue playing “mistake-free football” and not allow the Harris campaign to gain momentum from Republican-initiated mistakes.
“As long as [Trump] focuses and keeps doing what he’s been doing the last month here since the debate, I think he’s been on fire, so he’s got he’s on a roll here. He knows how to close a campaign. We’ve seen him do it twice already,” Boyle said.
