The Mayor of Knoxville is the latest politician to have her home vandalized, in a trend that has become commonplace since last summer’s Antifa and Black Lives Matter riots.
“The Knoxville Police Department is investigating after a vandalism report at Mayor Indya Kincannon’s home Sunday night,” according to a Monday report by WBIR. “When officers arrived on the scene, they observed the word ‘Death’ spray-painted in black on the backside of a detached garage at Mayor Kincannon’s house.”
On Tuesday afternoon, there was a break in the case.
Police said they arrested Christopher Greg Fortner, 44, of Sevierville, Tennessee after receiving a tip regarding his whereabouts. A neighbor had witnessed Fortner committing the crime in the act, and provided a description of him and his vehicle to police.
Kincannon reportedly confronted the suspect, too, before he ran away and sped off in his car.
“Violence, vandalism, and threats are never viable means to an end, under any circumstance,” Kincannon reportedly said. “I hope KPD is able to apprehend the person responsible. Despite the fact that this was obviously quite personal and hurtful to my family, we will continue to urge unity in this divisive time.”
She thanked police Tuesday afternoon.
“I want to extend my sincere thank you to all of the neighbors who assisted my family the night my home was vandalized, the KPD officers who worked diligently to help track down the suspect and the 2 City employees whose vigilance led to his arrest,” she reportedly said.
Political violence – particularly vandalism of the homes of politicians – has occurred many times since last summer, when Black Lives Matter and Antifa began targeting the homes of politicians for protest.
Minnesota State Sen. Warren Limmer, a Republican, was targeted by the mob.
“We were watching it on my Ring doorbell and … you get a different feeling when you see people slithering up to my front door, opening it and then pounding and yelling, demanding that I come out to greet the mob,” Limmer told Fox News. “And it really isn’t anything – that type of thing, no one in America should experience.”
When protestors showed up outside the home of U.S. Sen. Josh Hawley (R-MO) in northern Virginia in early January, police described it as not “that big of a deal,” despite Hawley’s claims that they vandalized his property.
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA-12) saw her home vandalized with far-left slogans earlier this month, too.
According to a report in KPIX, the home of Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) was also targeted:
The graffiti says “Cancel rent” and “We want everything” — possibly referencing coronavirus stimulus checks. There was also a severed pig’s head in a pool of red paint left in front of the garage door.
She wasn’t the only lawmaker targeted.
Vandals also spray painted Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell’s door in Kentucky on Saturday with “WERES MY MONEY.” “MITCH KILLS THE POOR” scrawled over a window. A profanity directed at the Republican senator was painted under the mailbox.
