A resolution to be debated by the Metro Nashville Council this week to recognize “Immigrant Heritage Month” also condemns last month’s joint operation between U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and the Tennessee Highway Patrol conducted in the city, which saw the arrests of 196 criminal illegal aliens.
The resolution, RS2025-1291, was filed on May 27 and is sponsored by Council Members Terry Vo, Jeff Preptit, Jennifer Gamble, Joy Styles, Antoinette Lee, Kyonzte Toombs, Brandon Taylor, Delishia Porterfield, Zulfat Suara, and Tasha Ellis.
The resolution begins by detailing the origins of Immigrant Heritage Month, explaining how the designation was started in 2014 to “honor and recognize the countless contributions made by immigrants to the fabric of American society.”
“[G]enerations of immigrants from around the world have helped build the economy of the United States and shaped the character of our community; and…Nashville and Davidson County has a robust immigrant population. Immigrants are represented in all industries. They are business and community leaders, elected officials, artists, chefs, athletes, and scientists; and…[I]mmigrants have contributed immeasurably to the economic prosperity, innovation, and entrepreneurial spirit not only of Nashville and Davidson County, but the United States,” the resolution continues.
After stating that one in seven Nashvillians is “foreign born,” the resolution goes on to laud immigrants’ “important” contributions to the city’s “economic vitality.”
Before concluding that the council “supports and stands united” with the city’s immigrant community, the resolution condemns last month’s immigration enforcement operation as an effort that seeks to “harm” immigrants.
“In May 2025, Immigration and Customs Enforcement arrested 196 individuals in Nashville. More than half of these community members had no prior criminal conviction or any pending criminal charges; and…[N]ow more than ever it is important to recognize and celebrate the contributions of immigrants in the United States and fight against policies that harm our immigrant community,” the resolution reads.
The resolution is scheduled to be debated by the council at its meeting on June 3.
The resolution tying Immigrant Heritage Month to last month’s immigration enforcement operation comes as Nashville has been designated a “sanctuary jurisdiction” by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and as the city’s mayor, Freddie O’Connell, is under active investigation by the U.S. House Judiciary and Homeland Security committees for his efforts to shield illegal aliens from federal law enforcement.

When there visas expire go get them and deport
Them it seams simple they just want to make it a show.if they are illegal just deported them.
The stupidity of the looney left knows no bounds.
The Metro Council is supposed to represent the voters in Davidson County.
If an honest poll could be taken, I don’t believe the voters support this resolution.
It’s a waste of time & probably is just a provocative move at the Federal Govt.
Federal Law supercedes local & state law.
The majority of property owners in Davidson County, which is decressing annually due to such stupid crap as this & who pay the majority of taxes are so sick of being bullied by the Democrat Socialists of America.
If any Council member or other elected official obstructs ICE from removing illegal aliens ( a crime) from Nashville, I hope the Federal government will aggressively indict & prosecute to the fullest extent. It’s clear they are not working in our best interest.
Many llegal Aliens have already received DEPORTATION ORDERS, or overstayed Visas, or were smuggled across the border unvetted. So stop with the DUE PROCESS LIE.
As a life long resident of my home town, I am devastated that Elected Officials believe they will receive NO Consequences for their own criminal behavior. NO DAMN RESOLUTION IS GOING TO PROTECT YOU ANTI-AMERICANS from consequences of our Sovereign Laws. Nashvillians should be terrified that such people somehow managed to get into the positions of power.
ACTUALLY ITS PERCEIVED POWER. THEY BOW TO THE MAYOR.
FORCED TERM LIMITS REMOVED THE POWER OF THE PEOPLE. Until the people take back their ability to hire & fire their own “representatives”, they have NO POWER.
This is why these same people don’t support school choice, bc they love ignorant voters.
WAKE UP NASHVILLE
Today’s illegals in far, far, too many cases are not contributing to the fabric of American society. They’re just taxing the resources that in fact belong to legal American citizens. I am in no way opposed to immigration – legal immigration that is. The hoards of illegals that have poured in over the past 4 years have, for the most part, no interest in meshing into our way of life. They only seem to want to come here, take over, and then convert our nation into the same type of garbage as the one they left behind. Something that seems to have escaped the minds of the progressives – or maybe that has been their goal all along.
So you have pride month, immigrant heritage month, I’m waiting for the next one, no doubt gay immigrant month is coming to Nashville. Glad to see the sewer, better known as Nashville, making national headlines, thanks to Mayor Fast Freddie ™. Maybe he’ll be the first public official arrested for interfering with ICE.
Just democrats celebrating criminal activity.
Come take our council…Please!!!!!
