Neil W. McCabe: The People Protecting Trump ‘Don’t Seem All That Motivated’ to Protect the Former President

National political reporter Neil W. McCabe said after two assassination attempts of former President Donald Trump, it appears as if the personnel assigned to protect the former president “don’t seem all that motivated” to wholeheartedly carry out the job.

McCabe said earlier this year, he spoke with “a few people in Trump world” who said that the former president was “aware” at the time “that he is going to be targeted with an assassination attempt.”

“And of course, it turned out to be true. What’s coming out is that the people protecting Trump don’t seem all that motivated to protect Trump,” McCabe explained on Wednesday’s edition of The Michael Patrick Leahy Show.

McCabe pointed out how the personnel being assigned to protect Trump are from the “same government that calls him a threat to democracy.”

“This is the same government that’s trying to put Trump in jail,” McCabe said, adding that the government is “trying to normalize” attempts on former president Trump’s life.

McCabe said if Americans were witnessing the situation play out in any other nation where the opposition party was relying on the party in power to provide trusted security, “we’d be stunned.”

“Because our culture is really only about three or four hundred years old, we still have a very sort of naive national personality. If this was France or Italy or England, it would be automatic. People would say, ‘Of course they want to get them killed’,” McCabe explained.

“If this happened in any third world country and we were reading about this thing going on in Congo, we would say, ‘Why is the presidential candidate allowing himself to be protected by the government he’s trying to defeat in the polls after two assassination attempts?’ If it happened in the Congo, we’d be stunned. It’s happening here. And there are people like, yeah they’re still doing a good job,” McCabe added.
