Neil W. McCabe: Trump Campaign Is ‘Completely Aligned,’ ‘Perfectly in Sync’

National political reporter Neil W. McCabe said the Trump campaign is “completely aligned” and “perfectly in sync” going into the November 5 general election, which has led to the campaign dominating the news cycle and taking coverage away from Vice President Kamala Harris’ campaign.

McCabe cited this week’s example of the Trump campaign dominating headlines after former President Donald Trump sported a high visibility safety vest and rode in a garbage truck in Green Bay, Wisconsin, less than 24 hours after President Joe Biden called Trump supporters “garbage.”

“What he did with that garbage truck and the vest was so perfect. What’s great about the Trump campaign is, at its most senior level, it’s completely aligned, vertically aligned. They are in tune with their boss,” McCabe explained on Thursday’s edition of The Michael Patrick Leahy Show.

Pointing to Trump’s remarks following the stunt with the garbage truck where the former president said he did not want to wear the safety vest until one of his staff members said it makes him look “thinner,” McCabe explained how that type of interaction between Trump and his team contributes to its success and fluidity.

“When Trump said, ‘I didn’t want to wear the vest, they told me to wear the vest. I said I don’t want to wear the vest and then they said, but sir, when you wear the vest, you look thinner,’ Trump said, ‘Give me that vest.’ That kind of joke just shows you that everything is lined up,” McCabe explained.

McCabe said that, unlike the 2012 Romney campaign, which saw two different messages being pushed to the elites and average voters, the Trump campaign is “not at war with itself” and is pushing the same message to all voters.

“These guys are perfectly in sync and this is not a campaign at war with itself, it’s not a campaign that’s trying to do two different messages,” McCabe said.

“It’s not like the Romney campaign back in 2012 when the subplot of the campaign was, ‘What is the stuff I have to say to the little people so they’ll vote for me and what is the message I give to the elites so that they know I’m not going to do anything that I promise’,” McCabe added.

As the Trump campaign continues to create viral moments leading up to Election Day, McCabe said the Harris-Walz campaign “has no message” to motivate voters.

“The problem is that these guys, after all the polling, and all the focus grouping, and everything else, they have no message that works,” McCabe said.
