Early in her brief speech at the Democratic National Convention Wednesday night, former House Speaker and U.S. Rep. Nancy Pelosi touted the successes of the Biden-Harris administration, including on the economy.

“On Jan. 20, 2021, with the inauguration of Joe Biden and Kamala Harris, we established one of the most successful presidencies of modern times, and we quickly proved that Democrats deliver,” Pelosi, R-California said. “Millions of jobs, stronger infrastructure and rural broadband, a Biden child tax credit …”

Pelosi – who was among the prominent Democrats who pressured Biden to end his re-election campaign, leading to Harris’ rise to the top of the ticket – didn’t mention news of revised federal jobs data released earlier in the day. The U.S. Department of Labor released the revised data that showed they overestimated the number of jobs created in the U.S. by 818,000 over the year through March 2024, a major revision that raised serious questions about the health of the economy. The numbers were revised down from about 2.9 million to about 2.1 million.

Former President Donald Trump accused the Biden-Harris administration of fraudulently inflating the earlier numbers.

“The Harris-Biden Administration has been caught fraudulently manipulating Job Statistics to hide the true extent of the Economic Ruin they have inflicted upon America,” Trump said in a Wednesday statement. “New Data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics shows that the Administration PADDED THE NUMBERS with an extra 818,000 Jobs that DO NOT EXIST, AND NEVER DID.”

Also under the Biden-Harris administration, inflation hit a 40-year high, with consumer prices now more than 22% higher than when Biden and Harris took office.

Pelosi, who spoke only for a few minutes, attacked Trump for the Jan. 6, 2021, storming of the U.S. Capitol by supporters protesting over Trump’s claims that the 2020 election was stolen.

“Let us not forget who assaulted democracy on January 6. He did,” Pelosi said. “Let us not forget who saved democracy that day. We did.”

Pelosi said voters need to elect Harris.

“I know that Vice President Harris is ready to take us to new heights,” she said.
