Pollster John McLaughlin said president-elect Donald Trump’s victory in the 2024 presidential election stemmed from Americans having “buyers remorse” from the policies and actions taken by the Biden-Harris administration over the course of four years.
Trump won the November 5 general election over Kamala Harris with 312 electoral votes. Trump also won the popular vote with over 77 million votes compared to Harris’ 74 million.
McLaughlin said despite the constant lawfare against Trump and disproportionate press coverage when it came to Trump and Harris leading up to the race, Trump overcame the attacks with “grace and dignity.”
“When you look at the way the mainstream legacy media covered the campaign…from the time Harris was picked to election day, she got 85 percent positive coverage for her, 79 percent negative coverage of Donald trump. This is a person who was shot in the ear by an assassin’s bullet, by the grace of God, lived, and they couldn’t even find positive things to say about him. When you look at everything that was thrown at him, he’s such a historic president,” McLaughlin explained on Thursday’s edition of The Michael Patrick Leahy Show.
“They impeached him twice. They tried to take away his wealth. They tried to put him out of business. They tried to put him in jail through four separate cases that the majority of Americans think were political and were done to stop Donald Trump…But he overcame all that opposition and all that adversity and he handled it with grace and dignity,” McLaughlin added.
McLaughlin also said Trump’s deep devotion to the nation, its people, and its future was the deciding factor in the race, as the president-elect could not stand idly by and watch the Biden-Harris administration dismantle the policies of his first presidency.
“He watched Biden dismantle his policies, whether it was economic growth, whether it was rampant government spending, debt, and triggering inflation, the surrender of Afghanistan, the open borders. As Biden dismantled Trump’s presidencies and his policy, he decided he was running again, because he’s very patriotic,” McLaughlin added.
“He cares deeply about the people in the country and America’s future, and he knew his policy prescriptions were right. He won, similar to Reagan. It was that buyer’s remorse,” McLaughlin added.
