President-Elect Trump Nominates Jamieson Greer as U.S. Trade Representative

President-elect Donald Trump announced late Tuesday he will nominate Jamieson Greer to serve as the next United States Trade Representative (USTR). In a statement published to his TruthSocial account, Trump expressed strong support for Greer, citing his instrumental role in shaping trade policy during the first term of the administration.

“I am very pleased to nominate Jamieson Greer to serve as the United States Trade Representative,” the incoming president wrote. “Jamieson played a key role during my First Term in imposing tariffs on China and others to combat unfair trade practices, and replacing the failed NAFTA deal with the USMCA, making it much better for American workers.”

Trump noted Greer’s previous contributions to the trade agenda are highlighted by his work alongside former USTR Robert Lighthizer, who the President-elect described as a “spectacular leader.” The efforts spearheaded by Greer were crucial in bringing manufacturing jobs back to the United States and addressing the long-standing issues surrounding trade policies that had harmed American industries, he said.

In his new role, Trump said he will task Greer with leading efforts to tackle the country’s growing trade deficit, defend key American sectors such as manufacturing, agriculture, and services, and work toward opening up new export markets around the world.

Currently a partner at the law firm King & Spalding, Trump said Greer has a deep understanding of trade policy. Prior to his current role, he served as Chief of Staff at USTR.

Trump added Greer, a native of Paradise, California, also brings to the role his experience as a U.S. Air Force veteran, having served in Iraq, Turkey, and stateside.

“Jamieson’s leadership will ensure that the U.S. remains strong on the global stage, defending our workers and industries while advancing fair trade policies,” the President added.

Greer’s nomination is expected to move forward through the Senate confirmation process in the coming weeks after the new year.
