Rep. Cohen Tells MSNBC That Mueller Report ‘Does Not Exonerate the President’

U.S. Rep. Steve Cohen (D-TN-09) has been a critic of President Donald Trump all throughout his presidency, and through his position on the House Judiciary Committee, has been one of the leading Democrats obsessing over the Robert Mueller investigation, which has now concluded.

Cohen does not seem to be giving up.

Cohen is calling for grilling Mueller in front of the House Judiciary Committee and is dismissing Attorney General William Barr’s statement showing that Mueller’s probe cleared the president.

Cohen tweeted, “Barr didn’t make his decision on obstruction after reading the #MuellerReport; he made it in 2018 when he wrote a memo to the DOJ stating that the president couldn’t be charged with obstruction of justice. He’s not a neutral observer! #CultureOfCorruption #ReleaseTheReport

Cohen’s tweet links to his appearance on MSNBC Sunday. He said, “First Mueller was not making a traditional prosecutorial judgment. Those are very interesting words. And then as you well said, he did not draw a conclusion one way or the other on obstruction. It does not draw that conclusion. It also does not exonerate the president.”

About Barr, Cohen said, “He was appointed by Donald Trump after he decided Jeff Sessions wasn’t his Roy Cohn, he wasn’t his ace attorney looking out for him, not for the country, not for justice. Bill Barr was put in there for a reason.”

He called for the full report to be released.

Cohen’s full comments are available on his Twitter link.

Also, Cohen said the House Judiciary Committee would likely call on Mueller to testify, Politico reported.

House Judiciary Committee Chairman Rep. Jerry Nadler (D-NY) said Barr would be called to testify “in light of the very concerning discrepancies” in his summary.

In December, Cohen told MSNBC that Trump is a “criminal enterprise,” The Tennessee Star reported.

Steve Cohen added, “proof is going to come out. They probably have recordings of Trump that Michael Cohen had. They probably have recordings of other people, the family members, and it’s going to be so clear that this has been a criminal enterprise from day one with the Russians and Trump, that the Republicans will jump off of the ship and say, we’ve got to get rid of this guy.”

In February, CNN’s Brianna Keilar called Cohen out over his attacks against Barr as The Star reported. Cohen accused Barr of carrying out President Donald Trump’s orders to end the Russian probe abruptly. Keilar asked for proof, but Cohen did not have any.

Indeed, Barr’s letter to Congress summarizing Mueller’s report found no evidence Trump, his campaign or associates conspired or coordinated with Russia to interfere in the 2016 presidential election, The Star reported.

  1. CCW

If Cohen has hard, actionable evidence that proves to Barr and the DoJ that there is something contrary to Mueller Report, then he should come forward with it immediately. He should be required to testify under oath to the FBI and other investigative entities. If he has information and is not forthcoming then he is must be charged with Obstruction of Justice. If he has flawed or false, or heresay fabrications found by FBI investigation in his testimony then he should be charged with perjury. So, Mr. Cohen “COME ON DOWN!”

  2. Prosecutor’s are not in the business exonerating, they prosecute. When they do not prosecute then that means they do not have a crime to prosecute someone for. Which is in essence the same thing no crime no time

What is the crime that the president needs to be exonerated?

Cohen would not recognize the truth if it smacked him directly in the mouth. He is an embarrassment to patriotic Tennesseans..
