Representative Mark Green (R-TN-07) denounced the Congressional efforts to remove from office or impeach President Donald Trump.
In his press release, Green alluded to President-elect Joe Biden’s consistent call for unity – the hallmark of his campaign and official theme for his upcoming inauguration.
“Now is the time for this country to come together. Unity can only be achieved by focusing on where we find common ground instead of drawing new battle lines. Sadly, the efforts to impeach a President with only a week remaining in his term will only tear us further apart,” stated Green. “So much of the American story has been about people from all walks of life coming together as one people. This kind of unity is uniquely American, but today, we have too many people choosing division instead of unity, personality and party instead of ‘one nation under God.’ We live in the greatest, most exceptional nation in world history. We can come together once again.”
Green suggested that his constituents cease engaging in social media for a time, and instead opt for in-person conversations with neighbors and family.
“[I] hope President-elect Biden will ask his Congressional colleagues to work toward uniting the country instead of pursuing a rushed impeachment that will only deepen the wedge between us,” added Green.
Green’s spokespersons didn’t respond to a request for comment by press time.
Efforts to impeach Trump were given new life following the Capitol Hill riot. Proponents of removing Trump from office advocated that Vice President Mike Pence agree to legislation invoking the 25th Amendment; if not, they signed on to voting for impeachment.
Section 4 of the 25th Amendment enables the Vice President to assume the powers and duties of the president. Such a measure is made possible through the Vice President and a majority of the Cabinet deeming the President “unable to discharge the powers and duties of his office.”
On Monday, House Democrats moved during a pro forma session to pass the 25th Amendment legislation by unanimous consent. Representative Alex Mooney (R-WV-02) objected, effectively nullifying the possibility of achieving unanimous consent. The measure was brought into Tuesday’s proceedings, where it was expected to be voted on.
House Democrats’ second measure to remove Trump from office through impeachment was also introduced Monday. The legislators justified the article of impeachment by claiming that Trump committed “high crimes and misdemeanors.” They alleged that the President had purposefully incited the Capitol Hill riot through his rhetoric.
The Democratic coalition also argued that the leaked private call between the president and Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger was Trump coercing and threatening Raffensperger to change the election outcome.
This second article of impeachment came almost exactly one year and one month from the first.
The president denied that his remarks were the cause of the riots, and showed little concern for the impeachment attempts. He added that the 25th Amendment is of “zero risk” to him, but alluded that the same crowds pushing to invoke the amendment would eventually use it to remove Biden and his administration from the White House.

Marsha Blackburn and Bill Hagerty are low life scum sucking members of the Swamp. They will never get a vote from my house again. They are liars and worthless excuses for Conservatism! !
Marsha and Hagerty are going to have a very rough time getting re-elected. We will NOT forget their betrayal.
I respect Rep Green but I am SICK of this “unity and come together” stuff. The Dems DONT mean it and never have–stop this “reach across the aisle” nonbsense. The Rs get bitten by that over and over–just DO NOT do it.
On top of that, is Rep Green going to call and Vote to REMOVE the traitorous backstabber Cheney as House Whip If not, these are mere words for we rubes back home
At least Congressman Green voted to support election integrity! Only west TN congressman Kustoff broke his promise from the GOP TN House delegation. Newly awoke us Senator Hagerty has lied to the people of TN by failing to support president Trump as he promised during his campaign. Green was able to stay focused on Tennessee people and not Washington. I agree the events were tragic. Keeping your promises made to Tennesseans is why you (Hagerty) were elected, not to advance the RINO agenda of Washington DC, Mitt Romney and Mitch McConnell. Hagerty please resign as you have broken your promises and you no longer have the moral high ground! Congressman Green please stay focused on Tennesseans agenda!
