WEST DES MOINES, Iowa — Fresh from penning another Wall Street Journal op-ed, Ohio entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy is set to pay another campaign call on the Hawkeye State.
The GOP presidential candidate plans a five-day, six-stop bus tour next week, including a rally with Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds.
Ramaswamy’s campaign swing begins at 7 p.m. Tuesday at a Free Speech America Event at the Palace Event Center in Treynor, according to his campaign. The session is titled “Civil Discourse or Civil War: How America Can Emerge from Her Crisis.”
On Wednesday, May 10, Ramaswamy is scheduled to speak at the Johnson County Republican Central Committee Dinner and fundraiser in Iowa City. The following day, Ramaswamy will appear at Royal Flooring’s corporate headquarters in Urbandale to rally with the governor. The event, sponsored by the Dallas County GOP, begins at 5:30 p..m.
“On May 11th, the Dallas County Republicans will host Vivek Ramasamy, the first millennial candidate to run for President as a Republican, to rally Iowa’s Young Republicans,” the organisation’s website states. “The event is designed to motivate participation in next year’s Iowa Caucuses.”
At 37, Ramaswamy is the youngest presidential candidate in the increasingly crowded field of competitors.
The anti-woke crusader continues his Iowa trip — the fourth since announcing his campaign in February — on Friday, May 12, at the Clinton County Iowa Republican Central Committee Spring Banquet at the Millennium Ballroom in Goose Lake. Ramaswamy has scheduled two campaign stops on Saturday, May 13, meeting with business owners in Cedar Rapids at 11:15 a.m. and a conversation with the Five Seasons Republican Women’s Club, time to be announced.
Ramaswamy heads back to Iowa with rising poll numbers and a growing spotlight on his campaign. He’s polling among the top five GOP contenders, according to RealClearPolitics’ latest average of Republican presidential primary polls. Former President Donald Trump continues to dominate the field, with 52 percent support among Republican primary voters, followed by Florida Governor Ron DeSantis (22.9 percent), who is expected to officially announce his White House run later this month.
But political outsider Ramaswamy has generated a lot of headlines, from his plan to replace the FBI and get rid of the U.S. Department of Education to his call for America to “decouple” from China.
This week Ramaswamy spelled out one of his economic positions in a Wall Street Journal piece headlined, “Prosperity Requires a Stable Dollar.” In it, the biotech multimillionaire argues that the Federal Reserve has tried to do too much, giving American consumers a volatile currency. Ramaswamy says he would change that as president.
In an interview last week with The Star News Network, Ramaswamy said he’s running on an America First 2.0 agenda.
“I’m going further than Trump ever did, and I’m doing it on first principles and moral authority, not just vengeance and grievance,” he said.
