Roger Simon Defends Actor Richard Dreyfuss Amid Uproar over Anti-Trans Comments During ‘Jaws’ Screening Event

Roger Simon, the co-founder of PJMedia and current columnist for The Epoch Times, defended his longtime friend, actor Richard Dreyfuss after the actor sparked backlash for speaking out against the transgender and #MeToo movements.

Over the weekend, Dreyfuss, an Oscar-winning actor, was interviewed on stage at the Cabot Theater in Massachusetts about his acting career before a screening of the film “Jaws,” the 1975 thriller in which Dreyfuss played the character Matt Hooper, was shown.

During the Q&A, Dreyfuss (pictured above) allegedly spoke out against the transgender and #MeToo movements, which caused an uproar among attendees of the event and the media.

The Cabot Theater was among the entities who condemned Drefuss’ comments, writing in the following statement:

We are aware of, and share serious concerns, following the recent event with Richard Dreyfuss prior to a screening of the film “Jaws” at The Cabot. The views expressed by Mr. Dreyfuss do not reflect the values of inclusivity and respect that we uphold as an organization. We deeply regret the distress that this has caused to many of our Patrons.

We regret that an event that was meant to be a conversation to celebrate an iconic movie instead became a platform for political views. We take full responsibility for the oversight in not anticipating the direction of the conversation and for the discomfort it caused to many patrons.

Simon, who said he has been friends with Dreyfuss for upwards of 50 years, defended the actor, saying, “Richard is one of the few people in Hollywood with the guts to say anything honest.”

“I know for a fact that Richard Dreyfuss, who I’ve known for maybe 50 years, is not a homophobe at all. He is not against people who have a sexual problem that makes them eventually be transgender. He’s against the idiotic and anti-human, at this point, transgender movement, which is making ten year olds screw up their lives forever. That’s what he’s doing,” Simon said on Tuesday’s edition of The Michael Patrick Leahy Show.

Noting how Dreyfuss is “very anti-trans,” Simon went on to explain that issues such as the transgender movement have become so heavily pushed by liberals that individuals are “terrified” to push back and speak out.

“They’re terrified. These people are terrified and I see it all over the place. They’re afraid their friends will reject them and their employers will reject them. That’s beginning to change, by the way. We can see the employers or some of them are getting wise and see that this stuff is really nonsense. But it’s taken a while,” Simon said.

Simon went on to say that liberals are “nutcases” who “don’t know what real life is about.”

“No one is more square in our culture than progressives. They are so out of it. They don’t know what real life is about, really,” Simon said. “Liberals are not liberals anymore. They’re nutcases.”

Overall, Simon said the condemnation of Dreyfuss is “really symptomatic of the world we’re in.”

Yes. So inclusive of “diversity” that they won’t tolerate any views other than the Woke/Marxist degenerate viewpoint.

Keep speaking truth to power, Mr. Dreyfuss!
