Scott DesJarlais Is ‘Impressed’ with the Way President Trump Has Dealt With the Coronavirus

Rep. Scott DesJarlais (R-TN-04) said on The Jeff Poor Show Monday that he supports the way President Donald Trump has been dealing with the coronavirus pandemic.

“I don’t know what they could have done differently. I think they are handling it well,” DesJarlais said.

“I am impressed with the president and his team in what they’ve done and how they are trying to salvage the economy,” the representative added. “I do think things will open up and brighter times are not far away.”

As President Trump considers opening the economy again, DesJarlais favors the idea but he realizes more data is needed to get a better idea of when to reopen things.

The representative said there will be criticisms regardless of when the economy is back open.

“If you reopen, there’s going to be a surge or a spike in new cases, and deaths — and that means you did the wrong thing,” he said.

“At some point, we’ve just got to look at the overall costs — what are we all willing to give up in terms of our freedom. I hear a lot of my more conservative friends giving everything from conspiracy theories to ‘we weren’t meant to have this much government, and give up this much freedom.’ And then you’ve got to weigh it against the human life factor.”

This week Americans will receive stimulus checks, however, DesJarlais said these checks will only help a little, and will not cover everything for people who have been out of work for two or three weeks.

When America recovers from this Chinese virus, DesJarlais said America can’t be dependent on China, and the country has to hold them accountable.

“We [America] need to do things a lot differently. We need to get a lot of pharmaceuticals back home and things were we don’t so dependent on China,” he said.
