U.S. Senate nominee Dave McCormick and incumbent Senator Bob Casey (D-PA) released campaign ads on Thursday, with the Republican challenger calling his opponent “dangerous” and Casey highlighting his ties to steel workers.
The campaign advertisements dropped after three recent polls showed McCormick just 4 points behind Casey, placing the candidates in a statistical tie.
McCormick’s campaign ad highlights Casey’s political alignment with President Joe Biden, noting the Democrat votes with Biden “98 percent of the time” and “refuses to stand up to Biden, even when Pennsylvanians” are told the White House is considering relocating Palestinians from Gaza to the United States.
“Bob Casey is too dangerous for Pennsylvania,” the McCormick ad declared.
By contrast, the ad by the Casey campaign highlighted his support for Pennsylvania steelworkers following the endorsement he received from United Steelworkers.
“Casey passed a law requiring federal infrastructure be built with American steel,” said a steel worker featured in Casey’s ad. A second added, “Take that, China.”
Casey’s campaign ad also follows the first commercial the pro-McCormick Keystone Renewal PAC released. Axios reported the ad will receive $4 million worth of television airtime throughout Pennsylvania.
The political action committee highlighted McCormick’s education at West Point, and the Bronze Star the Republican received while serving during the Gulf War.
The spate of political advertising for both candidates comes after polling from New Emerson College, Muhlenberg College, and AARP that showed Casey and McCormick statistically tied, with each survey showing the incumbent leading his Republican challenger by 4 percentage points.
New Emerson showed Casey with 48 percent of support and McCormick with 44 percent. The Muhlenberg pollsters showed Casey at 45 percent and McCormick at 41 percent, and the AARP survey had Casey at 48 percent and McCormick at 44 percent.
McCormick recently told The Pennsylvania Daily Star he is “very excited” about the state of the race and claimed Casey and Democrats have reason to be concerned about their electoral chances in Pennsylvania come November.
“They should be worried because they’re failing the American people, and Bob Casey is failing Pennsylvanians,” said Casey.
McCormick was endorsed by former President Donald Trump before his primary victory and more recently secured the endorsement of Senator Marsha Blackburn (R-TN), who said the former Trump administration official is “the right choice” to “win in Pennsylvania and take back the Senate Majority.”
