Senator Sherrod Brown (D-OH) introduced a resolution along with Sens. Corey Booker (D-New Jersey) and Kamala Harris (D-California) that wants to say “racism” is a public health crisis.
“We will not make progress until we acknowledge and address all of the ways that centuries of racism and oppression have harmed Black and brown Americans,” Brown said. “This resolution is an important step toward recognizing the racial disparities in healthcare that have existed for far too long while also outlining concrete action we can take now to help reverse them.
“Though this resolution is not a solution in and of itself, it will help to lay the foundation for change that is continually subverted by and for the status quo,” he added. “I am proud to join my colleagues in introducing this important resolution.”
In the resolution given to Senate Republicans Wednesday, it wants America to establish a nationwide strategy to address health disparities and inequities, dismantle policies that are “perpetuate” and “systemic,” reform policies that led to “poor health outcomes for communities of color,” and promote efforts to address the “social determinants of health” for minorities.
The Democrats’ resolution comes as the Chinese coronavirus has had a great effect on communities of color. APM Research Lab’s data shows Black people are 3.7 times more likely to get COVID-19 compared to White people. For Hispanics, they are 2.5 times more likely to get the virus compared to White people.
APM Research Lab does” nonpartisan research and analysis from American Public Media,” according to its Twitter profile.
The resolution claims “Since the Nation’s founding, the United States has had a longstanding history and legacy of racism, mistreatment, and discrimination against African Americans, Latinos, Native Americans, and other people of color.”
This trend of declaring racism a public health crisis has gained popularity recently
In Ohio, the city of Columbus declared racism a public health emergency in June. It got so much support that over 1,200 business leaders in the community wrote a letter in support.
Furthermore, Minnesota saw Hennepin County and Minneapolis in July say racism was a public health emergency.

Chattanooga city council adopted a Marxist resolution that is nothing but racist vitriol. No one has the courage to say no!
And abortion, homosexuality, transgender is normal? Only in the depraved progressive/ liberal hell we’re experiencing.
Sherrod Brown is right. White racism is a serious health epidemic!
The true health care crisis is one of psychological dementia infecting the democrats/leftists/socialists/marxists. Up is down…war is peace…white is black
