Six Tennessee U.S. representatives voted against a continuing resolution on Thursday that would fund the government through March 8 and March 22.
The continuing resolution passed the House of Representatives by a 320-99 vote.
U.S. Representatives Diana Harshbarger (R-TN-01), Tim Burchett (R-TN-02), Scott DesJarlais (R-TN-04), Andy Ogles (R-TN-05), John Rose (R-TN-06), and Mark Green (R-TN-07) all voted against the resolution.
U.S. Representatives Chuck Fleischmann (R-TN-03) and David Kustoff (R-TN-08) voted with the majority.
Rose, who has voted against every continuing resolution the House has debated since Congress last passed a funding bill in December of 2022, said he will reject any continuing resolution until the border crisis and national debt is addressed.
“I have consistently rejected each irresponsible Continuing Resolution the House has voted on since Congress last passed a funding bill in December of 2022,” Rose said in a statement. “Tennesseans deserve a secure border, not runaway government spending. I will continue standing with the Tennesseans who are rightfully concerned with President Biden’s open-border policies and fighting against Washington D.C.’s dysfunction standing in the way of securing our border and addressing our growing national debt.”
Burchett, who also voted against the temporary spending package, said he is not interested in “moving forward with more short-term funding” unless the southern border is closed.
“I understand the political expediency of the situation but it still doesn’t sit well with me. Unless we completely close our southern border, I’m not interested in moving forward with more short-term funding. We need to pass a budget like the state of Tennessee and the rest of America does,” Burchett said.
Thursday’s passage of the continuing resolution results from another failed attempt by lawmakers to pass a budget to fund the government and avoid a shutdown.
In January, instead of passing a budget, lawmakers passed a continuing resolution to temporarily fund certain government agencies up until this Friday and others until March 8.

Very excellent.
Kicking the can down the road does nothing to help the country. Shutting the government down would set the stage for a anti-Cloward/Piven do over.
Thumbs up to these 6 that protect America.
I am very pleased that my wife and I decided to make East Tennessee our adopted home.
Fleischmann and Kustoff are consistently not like the other TN Republicans and the grassroots Republicans of our state. Fleischmannn is particularly vulnerable because the conservative grassroots of Eastern TN have been organizing and getting involved.
Hoping a solid candidate will step forward in each district as TN needs strong, bold, conservative leadership as does our nation.
I’m all for shutting down government.
they haven’t even followed the laws that they wrote.
at this point the laws that our federal government makes are made just to benefit the congressmen who make them.
the housing bubble collapsed and they voted themselves a pay raise.
people on the street without food while illegal immigrants get 3000 dollar debit cards and a place to stay..and congress thinks they’re doing great.
frankly, at this point I’d pay them to just sit there and NOT make laws.
that’s how bad it is.
and then there’s cocaine mitch mcconnell who won’t stop the fentnyl, won’t stop the border invasion. did I mention that his wife is chinese with ties to mainland china?
yeah.
Well then. Fleischmann and Kustoff need to be primaried and soundly defeated.
