State Senator Kerry Roberts Set to Embark on 100-Mile Bike Ride to Raise Money for Humphreys County Flood Victims One Year Later

Tennessee State Senator Kerry Roberts (R-Springfield) announced that he will embark on a 100-mile bicycle ride on the one-year anniversary of the devastating flooding in Waverly and Humphreys County to raise money and awareness for the flood victims.

On August 21, 2021, a deadly flood swept through Middle Tennessee, killing 20 people, leaving more than 270 homes destroyed, and damaging more than 500 structures. The flood affected many counties across Middle Tennessee, but Humphreys County endured the most severe damage.

On Saturday, August 20, Roberts’ ride will begin at the Robertson County Courthouse  and end at the Humphreys County Courthouse, where he will present a $10,000 check to United Way for flood victims, according to a press release by Roberts’ office.

The last 11 miles of Roberts’ ride will follow the Trace Creek from McEwen to Waverly, where much of the devastation occurred.

“My goal is to refocus attention on the people and businesses of Humphreys County who are still struggling in the aftermath of the devastating flood a year ago,” State Senator Roberts said in a statement. “As we were reminded by the recent flooding in Kentucky, lives and livelihoods are devastated by such a catastrophic event and rebuilding can take years. We need to let the people of Humphreys County know we have not forgotten them.”

Roberts is donating the $10,000 to United Way from his campaign funds due to him being unchallenged in his upcoming re-election for the general assembly.

“With no opponent in this election, I want the money to help flood victims instead of sitting in a bank account for the next election,” Roberts added.

Following Saturday’s ride, Roberts will participate in Sunday’s memorial services remembering the lives lost in the flood, the press release notes. A morning memorial service will be held at Waverly Church of Christ on Sunday at 10 a.m. followed by an evening memorial service at Waverly Central High School at 6 p.m.

Sure wish I was still represented by Kerry. Ferrell Haile is a major disappointment.
