Study Finds Nashville Crime Rate as One of the Highest in the Country

In a new study conducted by WalletHub, the city of Nashville ranked fourth overall in having the highest crime rates per 1,000 residents among state capitals in the country. According to the study’s findings, Little Rock, Arkansas ranked the highest for crime while Concord, New Hampshire was the lowest. Following Little Rock is Salt Lake City, Utah; Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Nashville; and then Charleston, West Virginia.

The study further states that Music City ranked second in the economic well-being category and 18th in affordability. Nashville also ranked highly on the list of cities with the most attractions, coming in at 5th, and the list of cities with the lowest percentage of state, local, and federal government employees, coming in at 3rd place. However, the city ranked 27th in quality of life and 30th in quality of health and education.

Overall, out of all 50 state capitals, Nashville was ranked the 18th best capital to live in the U.S.

According to the study that came out this week, the top state capital to live in is Austin, Texas while the worst state capital to live in is Trenton, New Jersey.

In order to identify the best state capitals to live in, WalletHub compared all 50 across four key dimensions: affordability, economic well-being, quality of education & health, and quality of life.

Along with the data, WalletHub notes, “State capitals aren’t just for lawmaking. Often, they’re thriving cities with a lot of economic and cultural value. In fact, they can be some of the best places to live in America. But not all state capitals are created equal. Though 17 of them are the largest cities in their states, the biggest population doesn’t always represent the best quality of life.”
