A prominent leader of the Tea Party movement says former Democratic Connecticut Senator Joe Lieberman “is unacceptable as FBI Director” to President Trump’s political base.
“Tom Zawistowski, President of the We the People Convention and Executive Director of the Portage County [Ohio] TEA Party, made it very clear that the Trump Base of Voters do not accept liberal former Congressman and Senator Joe Lieberman as being even worthy of consideration for the position of FBI Director as has been suggested in the media late today. President Trump today said that he may make his decision about the new FBI Director as early as Friday,” the We the People Convention said in a statement on Thursday.
Recent press reports indicate that Lieberman is currently the leading contender to replace James Comey as head of the FBI.
“President Trump said Thursday that Joe Lieberman was his top choice to become FBI director, filling the slot left open after Trump fired James B. Comey, his previous FBI head, last week,” the Washington Post reported.
“We trust that the rumors about extremely liberal former Senator Joe Lieberman being Trump’s top choice as the new FBI Director is just more fake news,” Zawistowski said, adding:
As President Trump said at the Coast Guard Academy yesterday, he wasn’t elected President to represent the media or the DC Establishment, he was elected to represent the American People. The consideration of someone like Joe Lieberman, who has no law enforcement experience, who has a pathetic 14% Lifetime Conservative Voting Record according to FreedomWorks, and who is 75 years old and being considered for a 10 year appointment, simply makes no sense and is totally unacceptable to the Trump base.
“We are sick and tired of being ruled over by the DC Elites and the wealthy liberals from the East and West coasts,” Zawistowski continued:
You know what we want? We want someone to run the FBI who is from Oklahoma, or Texas or Tennessee. Someone who lives where we live, in the REAL America. Someone who has outstanding law enforcement experience and who understands how the American people have been suffering under the tyranny of selective law enforcement by the FBI, the DOJ, HSA, ICE, IRS and all the other federal agencies that have been politicized and weaponized against the American people.
You don’t drain the swamp by putting more alligators back in the swamp, let alone a flaming liberal political hack like Joe Lieberman, who is best friends with liberal Senator John McCain, who is undermining the President on a daily basis and may even be responsible for some of the security leaks to the media. That simply is unwise. We need people appointed who the President can trust and who the American people can trust. That is certainly not Joe Lieberman. We know, they all love old Joe in DC and that is precisely why he is unacceptable to those of us who elected Donald Trump President. We expect that this is just another unfounded media leak and that the President will name a true conservative to the position of FBI Director as soon as possible.
Former Oklahoma Gov. Frank Keating, a Republican, is also under consideration to replace Comey at the FBI.
