Tennessee Congressman Plans to Introduce Bill to Abolish U.S. Department of Education

U.S. Rep. Tim Burchett (R-TN-02) and U.S. Rep. Thomas Massie (R-KY-04) plan to introduce legislation to abolish the U.S. Department of Education.

Representatives for both congressmen said they will put the legislation forward, but they would not say precisely when.

Massie spokesman John Kennedy told The Tennessee Star this week that he will introduce the legislation “later in the session.”

But Burchett spokesman William Bensur, in an email this week, said Burchett and Massie plan to introduce the legislation “in the coming weeks.”

Burchett, in an email of his own, said his background is in education.

“Both my parents were career educators and I received an education degree from the University of Tennessee. And I can tell you not once has a D.C. bureaucrat taught one of our kids how to read,” Burchett said.

Yes, Every Kid

“What works for educators in Los Angeles County doesn’t work for educators in Grainger County. It’s not a one-size-fits-all approach. Money for the Department of Education should go to the states so they can decide what to do with it.”

Bensur said that the pending legislation reintroduces a bill that Massie and Burchett introduced in the previous session of Congress.

The language of that bill is brief and to the point: “Terminate the Department of Education.”

Burchett appeared on The Tennessee Star Report Thursday to discuss the environment in Washington, D.C. under the new administration of U.S. President Joe Biden.

As reported in August, Burchett introduced the Protecting Jobs and Wages from Regulations Act of 2020, which he said would, if enacted into law, reform the federal regulatory process. The Protecting Jobs and Wages from Regulations Act would require that all federal agencies disclose data regarding the impact a rule might have on jobs and wages. Federal agencies must also explain what problem the proposed rule seeks to address and allow the public the opportunity to comment on proposed rules.

What a complete waste of time considering that it has no chance of passing in the house or senate. This is no different than all those who said they wanted to dump obama-care and as soon as we had a real chance to do so in 2017-2018 (we controlled both the house and senate), they did NOTHING! This nothing more than playing to his base. I’m sick of the do nothing GOP, I want a true populist party. TRUMP still is my President.

Thank you, Reps. Burchett and Massey, for attempting to remove education from national, centralized control and return it to the state and local levels.

Communist goals, excerpted from the 1958 book, “The Naked Communist,” by Cleon Skousen:

    17. Get control of the schools. Use them as transmission belts for socialism and current Communist propaganda. Soften the curriculum. Get control of teachers’ associations. Put the party line in textbooks.

    32. Support any socialist movement to give centralized control over any part of the culture-education, social agencies, welfare programs, mental health clinics, etc.
