Tennessee COO and Potential Attorney General Brandon Gibson Refuses to Offer Support for National Guardsmen

Brandon Gibson, the rumored frontrunner to succeed Attorney General Slatery, Governor Bill Lee’s Chief Operating Officer for the state of Tennessee, refused to comment when The Tennessee Star asked her to comment on the pending firings of many National Guardsmen due to their refusal to comply with a COVID-19 vaccine mandate.

The Star reached out to Gibson on Monday morning and asked the following:

In your capacity as Tennessee Chief Operating Officer please comment on the following:

1 – Has the firing of Tennessee National Guard Members come up in your conversations with Governor Lee and/or other staff? If so, what was the nature of those conversations?

2 – Have you given Governor Lee advice on the issue? What was the manner of that advice, if so?

3 – Have you advocated that Governor Lee take action in favor of saving TN National Guard member’s jobs?

4 – Do you support the firing of Tennessee National Guard members or any other group of government employees due to their refusal to accept COVID-19 vaccine mandates?

Gibson ignored The Star’s questions.

Previously reported, sources familiar with the thinking of Governor Bill Lee and his team told The Tennessee Star that Lee believes that “it is already a done deal” that his preferred choice for attorney general, Brandon Gibson, will get the appointment.

The sources spoke with The Star on background and one said, “It is very well thought by Governor Lee’s team and highest corners of office in the executive branch that the open attorney general seat is a lock to go to Brandon Gibson.”

Due to that reporting, The Star additionally asked Gibson questions pertaining to what she would do if she became Tennessee Attorney General

Additionally, multiple sources familiar with the governor’s administration thinking tell The Tennessee Star that you are believed to be the prohibitive favorite to be the next Attorney General of Tennessee. That said, please comment on the following:

1 – If you were Tennessee Attorney General now or in the future, would you file suit against the Biden administration Department of Defense or another named party in order to attempt to save the jobs of Tennessee National Guardsmen?

2 – Would you vigorously defend the rights of Tennesseans against federal government overreach in this Tennessee National Guard matter specifically, or in any other matter as would arise?

Gibson again ignored The Star’s questions.

Yes, Every Kid

While the Tennessee Speaker of the House, Lt. Governor, State Senate Majority Leader have all issued statements of support for the National Guard members who are facing termination, Governor Lee and Attorney General Slatery have remained silent.
