As “pride month” kicks off across the country, Tennessee’s Democrats took to social media to show their support for the gay pride agenda.
State Senate Minority Leader Raumesh Akbari (D-Memphis) (pictured above, left) retweeted a tweet by Sesame Street – a supposed children’s show – celebrating gay pride.
“Everyone is always welcome on Sesame Street. Let’s celebrate LGBTQIA+ people in our communities this Pride and every day! Happy #PrideMonth!” the video said, featuring Elmo, who also wished viewers a “happy pride.”

State Senator Heidi Campbell (D-Nashville), also a candidate for Nashville mayor, retweeted that same tweet.
Democrat Caucus Chairman State Representative John Ray Clemmons (D-Nashville) (pictured above, middle) wished Tennesseeans a happy “pride month.”
With his message, he tweeted a photo of gay pride flags waving over the Stonewall National Monument, an iconic site for the gay pride movement.

State Representative Gloria Johnson (D-Knoxville) (pictured above, left), who was recently subject to an expulsion vote from the Tennessee House for her role in a riot at the Tennessee Capitol, shared a video of herself and two LGBT “experts” speaking on an internet panel two days ago about LGBT youth.
Dr. Natasha Poulopoulos, a pediatric psychiatrist who treats LGBT youth, spoke on the panel.
“Sexual orientation is who you are attracted to, and gender identity is who you identify as” said Poulopoulos. “And I will say that gender identity starts to form really early on in life. I mean, I’m talking like after age 5, kids are really starting to identify like, ‘oh, I’m a boy or I’m a girl,’ and these concepts are really being confused with things like sex assigned at birth, which is when, like a child is born at birth with certain chromosomes or external genitalia, they’re assigned male or female. Gender identity is this innate sense of yourself and your identity, and it’s not black and white.”
Johnson agreed that young children understand the concept of gender identity and that the issue should be discussed with them.
“As a matter of fact, those conversations, they do no harm but they also do a whole lot of good, helping other kids to understand how another kid in the classroom might be feeling, how some of their peers might be feeling,” she said.
Meanwhile, Republicans in Tennessee celebrated Statehood Day. June 1 marks Tennessee’s 227th year as a state.
“Tennessee is an exceptional state, and Tennesseans are remarkable people. Today, we’re proud to commemorate 227 years of Tennessee statehood and celebrate the many people, places and traditions that have shaped our state,” said Governor Bill Lee (R).
