A statewide tour that organizers say will promote Constitutional values and personal liberties is getting results.
Organizers say that this Freedom Matters Tour has attracted consistent crowds of 400 to 600 people.
“However, Wednesday night’s crowd in Knoxville exceeded expectations as 822 freedom-loving, fed up Tennesseans came out to hear us speak,” said Maury County Mayor Andy Ogles in an email to The Tennessee Star this week.
“Alan Keyes and myself served as the ‘keynotes’ with me additionally hosting a Q & A at the end. The tone of the event, and the questions from the audience were clear; people are tired of watching their freedoms being taken away and they are tired of politicians masquerading as conservatives. People want actions not words, they want their elected officials to stand up and defend them.”
The Williamson County-based Tennessee Stands has already held these tour events in Kingsport, Loudon, Mount Juliet, Greeneville, and Knoxville and still has scheduled events in Chattanooga, and Jackson, according to its website.
“There is a growing movement across the state of Tennessee for those who understand the state and nation’s Constitution. These people are no longer willing to allow their rights to be eroded or infringed upon,” according to the website.
“With these rights and values in mind, Tennessee Stands is launching the ‘Freedom Matters’ tour to promote constitutional values and to encourage Tennesseans to STAND UP for their personal liberties.”
Ogles earlier this month called upon members of the Tennessee General Assembly to convene a special session to address Governor Bill Lee and what Ogles said was the governor’s “continued abuses of power.”
Ogles, in this proclamation, said Lee’s “indecisiveness and half measures” have “subjugated parents and their children to out of control school boards and superintendents, liberal mayors and a complicit commissioner of education.”
“At a time when truly conservative governors are aggressively fighting against both local AND federal assaults on our freedoms, Governor Lee is taking the twisting path to appease the Left and their allies,” Ogles said.
