Tennessee Governor Bill Lee endorsed Jason Emert, a reserve officer with the U.S. Air Force and member of the Tennessee Air National Guard, in the August 1 Republican primary election for Tennessee State House District 20.
“Jason Emert is a strong conservative and reserve military officer who will work to expand opportunity for Tennessee families by empowering parents with school choice, creating quality jobs and cutting taxes,” Lee said in a statement.
“I’m honored to support Jason’s election to the Tennessee House of Representatives, and I look forward to working with him to create a brighter future for Tennesseans,” Lee added.
Emert (pictured above, left) said he was “incredibly honored” to receive the governor’s support.
“Gov. Lee has been a leader for all Tennesseans, transforming this state for the better. I believe in Gov. Lee’s vision to empower individuals, free families to make educational choices, and promote liberty,” Emert said.
Emert, who also works as an attorney, is facing county commissioners Tom Stinnett and Nick Bright in the August 1 primary.
The race for House District 20 is open as incumbent State Representative Bryan Richey (R-Maryville) announced he would not be seeking reelection to the seat and instead run for the Tennessee Senate.
In addition to the governor’s endorsement, Emert has also been endorsed by the organization Latinos for Tennessee in recent days.
Tommy Vallejos, the executive director and co-founder of Latinos for Tennessee, said Emert is a “strong advocate” for liberty – specifically “educational liberty.”
Emert’s bid for House District 20 has also been endorsed by Americans for Prosperity Action (AFP Action).
“[Emert’s] platform recognizes the need to end the healthcare monopoly by repealing CON, supports the advancement of statewide universal school choice, and supports ending occupational licensing,” AFP Action said.
